Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

Oh look, Charles' friends (Zeemanb and Ramblinfarms) are doing what they are accusing others of doing: Praising without specifics! Nor does it seem they have even been to the restaurant! Sad.

Wow, did Artego Pizza loan out all the family and friend anonymous reviewers from their writeup to come in here and provide blind praise and incredibly non-specific rebuttals to a thorough, accurate review or what? Way to go anons!

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

I love the trolls on here slamming Charles because he did his job. Catch a clue morons. As a restaurant reviewer, Charles' job is to review restaurants. If you disagree with him, and can offer specifics based on first hand experience, that's fine. Some of the comments did exactly that and were worth the read. But the ad hominum attacks are childish and make you sound like spoiled children having a little temper tantrum.

Frankly, I find Charles' reviews to be accurate and spot on, based on my personal experience dining in the restaurants he has reviewed. But really the bottom line here, and as someone involved in and supportive of the restaurant scene in the Metro I am sure Charles would agree, is try it for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

Thank you Charles for your very to-the-point, and truthful review. I moved into the prairie fire apartments while waiting to build my house, and have had nothing but bad experiences at every single establishment here. From overpriced meals that lack any sort of effort from the staff, management or kitchen to the understaffed and overrated cinetopia experience. I am always amazed at how people flock here like it is the best thing since sliced bread, when in reality it is collectively the worst retail launch I have ever seen. I cannot think of a collection of business that are so uniformly poorly managed. I can't expect that any of the business will last that long without serious change.

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

I'll take heat for mentioning Yelp here. But I do think the preponderance of votes, flawed as they are, says something valid about a dining experience. Well, Yelp shows 29 reviews, and a 3 1/2 star overall rating, which wouldn't be too shabby except: the individual ratings run from 1 star to 5 stars. This is often a consequence of very irregular service and/or food. A bad thing, right? And sometimes there are very favorable ratings which might be pumped up ratings by employees or owner's family members, as well as low ratings by people who have an axe to grind. The ratings of this place tend to run low, even excluding fluffers and haters. I wouldn't consider going to a place when other more consistently rated places are available nearby. I haven't eaten here. But my bet is that Charles isn't far off the mark.

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

I nostalgically remember the first Paradise Diner and rushed out to Prairie Fire within the first month or so to partake. I have to agree with Charles. My burger was very good, not excellent but very good even with the outer crust but the sides were deplorable. And, my husband's meal wasn't all that either. Needless to say we haven't rushed back-parking sucks, and I don't normally valet, I can use the exercise. There wasn't a dessert that even sounded tempting to me. My husband has been to Rock & Brew and reported a very lame -Meh-back to me. I'd say you were more than fair.

I apologize; Angela was the photographer (and a nice shot). Charles Ferruzza was the author. I misread. (I still hold to my original opinion, though). :-)

You reflect the meanness of a bully who comes to the party to tare everything down. Totally unjustified. Shame on you.

Wow! This review is just plain mean. It's sad that someone would go this far to trash a business.

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

Charles, truth is in the eye/ear of the beholder, yes, but please consider why you had to take most every opportunity to make many of this restaurant’s tried-and-true attributes negative. What is it that made you go for blood?

I usually find your reviews insightful and fair. Instead, I perceive that you not only threw balance out the window, but you took a very positive business development in Leawood and spun it into a hurtful story based on the most stereotypical and negative exaggerations of the facts.

I hope you will reflect on this perspective and consider, in the future, not approaching with a hatchet in your hand.

I have had many of the menu items you reference and have found them to be delicious.

I'm surprised the Pitch didn't block the IP addresses, and remove the positive posts of those who disagree with Angela. They've done it before when people have disagreed with Charles F.

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

The notion of a diner being a place with greasy spoons and a gritty atmosphere is a thing of the past. Paradise Diner offers a fresh, delicious, diverse approach. This is not an old train car on a dead-end track in the West Bottoms. Complimentary valet, cool decor and a diverse menu. Why does the reviewer see this as bad? No one enjoys every dish on a menu, but we all have our favorites. I go to Paradise on a regular basis and have my favorites, which I always enjoy - and are served with a smile.

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

I have eaten at Paradise Diner numerous times since it opened and with each visit I have had an exceptional meal and a wonderful experience. Your review is so off the mark, I question your motive for writing such a piece. It seems you hate variety, valet parking, and all-things Prairiefire, while struggling with your second career as an interior design critic. Try Paradise Diner for yourself folks... you won't be disappointed.

I like the Paradise Diner. I find that it has great food, great service and a charming fun environment. Personally I have never had a bad day there and I go there often. I also like the extreme cleanliness of the place.

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

Can't agree at all. I've found the food consistently excellent, as have most of the out-of-town visitors I've brought over. Cory's salad, the bacon-wrapped dates, the stroganoff, the polenta...OK, I'd better stop, I'm getting hungry! I think Angela is a little (?) too hung up on the word, "Diner." She faults Paradise for NOT being a greasy spoon, and being too classy (go figure). If she feels nostalgic, maybe the roller grill at the 7/11 would be more her speed.
