Maggie - wouldn't you really rather have a conversation with someone who thinks you're interesting - or at least fakes it? Bacon flavored bs doesn't impress me - save your breathe for those easily impressed with your bacon recipes or your boobs - if you had any imagination you'd have moved on from the so called "bacon craze" when it went out of style 2 years ago.

Thanks for the recipes - now I can go to local pig buy some bacon, make a blt and sip a Blanton's single barrel - saving the entrance fee and more importantly - saving me from having to be around dumbash hipsters who think putting bacon on everything is the coolest thing since go go boots. I wonder how many selfies will get posted from this "event".

When will Charles do a review of the salad bar and soup selections at Cosentino's downtown? Until he tells me his opinion I just won't be able to know what to select. I'm anxiously waiting for him to review a can of Campbell's tomato soup.

Mr. Feruzza has evolved over the years into about the only real critic writing about any medium in this area. His reviews always instruct and always give a straightforward evaluation of the subject. I wish we had more fine, well written reviews for other subjects in this city, whether through Pitch, Star, or other publications.

We don't have soba noodles, or tea but the tonkatsu noodles and miso noodles are just as addictive. I've worked there for about 8 months and I still can't wait to sit down to a bowl of pork broth, miso noodles, and a couple slices of the seared pork belly most days.

Sounds delicious! I wonder if they offer the wonderfully nutty soba (buckwheat noodles, or tea)? I'm totally addicted, can't find the dish or the tea anywhere. Anyway, I can't wait to taste their ramen. Thanks for the post.

I liked Barrel 31 the time I was there. But some of Carter's comments strike me wrong. The recipe given for the "classic dressing from the 1920s" sounds a lot like ranch to me. If you're going to serve fried chicken, white cream gravy is what I want. The duck gravy sounds like it might be good with, say, duck. Pork rinds can be done right. Why would anyone want to eat ground turkey, or any turkey for that matter? I suspect it's part of the misguided low fat thing that's responsible for much of this country's obesity. IMHO, chefs would do better to first do good food right. Then you can think about being "creative". I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds to me like another restaurant tending towards failure. -- And, I know Charles is a teetotaler, but he might mention that Barrel 31 is a whiskey bar, not that common around here.

Location, location, location....meaning that if this restaurant had opened in Johnson County it would have received a rotten review.

oh a classy spot for a change.......when will Charles give us a food review of another bowling alley ...... you know the Pitch is hurting when they advertise for employees with pop ups on their home page and Charles allowance has been reduced so much he has to do reviews at bowling alleys and cross roads dumps.....

We dined there last weekend and I totally agree with you. We had made a reservation and explained it was a special occasion. They tried to seat the two of us at the front of the restaurant crammed between two other parties. We insisted on being in a little more secluded are. We ordered a LOT of appetizers and salad, and you're right, - not enough beets in the beet salad, but everything else was delicious. We didn't get bread either, and the waiter was less than attentive. We had to ask to have water refilled, and had to put our used dished on the table next to us. He wasn't haughty, just maybe a little too busy. They had several large parties and I only counted 3 waitstaff, one of which was doubling as bartender. I'd probably go back, and it wasn't expensive, but it wasn't cheap, and the service should match the food. They are too close to Le Fou Frog not to have better service.
