Re: “Grab a beer and take a tour through Kansas City-area breweries

Beerlover, you must have missed our April cover story on Blind Tiger:

Or the follow-up to the story on this page, which rounds up places outside KC:

Re: “Grab a beer and take a tour through Kansas City-area breweries

no blind tiger in topeka? they've won a number of world gold medals and have the best maibock anywhere. tallgrass or little apple brewery in manhattan? blue skye in salina? this list seems more than a bit lazily put together...

Re: “Il Lazzarone is already cool. It's time for it to be great, too

I agree with just about everything in this review and would add that two out of the three times I've been there a guy who seems to be the manager was cursing at various staff members in earshot of diners. I mean really degrading, abusive stuff. Extremely, extremely unprofessional and off-putting. After the last time, my partner and I agreed that we would not be returning. Really unfortunate because this has the potential to be a terrific place.

Only been once but it was good and the waiter was good (young guy with black hair). I will agree on the uncomfortable chairs tho

Re: “Il Lazzarone is already cool. It's time for it to be great, too

Pretty close to my varied experiences, although Erik should be pleased to know that I've had EXCELLENT service from the wait staff every time I've been. I once had a less than social bartender but nothing to get too upset about. I do find the chairs a bit uncomfortable but the space and visual appeal are great. However, on my most recent visit, I ordered the Pesto pizza (my personal favorite,) and while I found it to be very good as always, our waiter came to us with a SECOND pesto pizza claiming that it had been sent out by the chef because he wasn't "satisfied with the color" of the first one he sent out to us. That's pretty baller customer service, and shows the amount of care that goes in to presenting the food at its best.

Spot on review Charles. We'll return when you can report that The food and the service warrant the prices.

Love this place and have taken all my family there, but it is NOT consistent, and there are some waiters I would like to avoid. One or two good ones that I will make sure to get in the future.

Re: “Il Lazzarone is already cool. It's time for it to be great, too

A fair assessment! I've had the exact same experience of both fantastic, attentive service (to the point of them calling me by name even if it's been a few weeks) to a wildly indifferent bartender when I was the only bar patron on a Sunday afternoon. On the latter occasion I was just glad I had a book on my phone to read.

I actually make an effort to go in the later hours as quality places open late are hard to come by. When you want a cocktail nightcap in the River Market, it's your best option that is open late. I hope their current hours manage to support the business as our 'hood continues to grow and thrive and we draw more people to the area. C'mon KC Streetcar!

As a neighborhood resident, I remain *thrilled* this gem arrived in the River Market. Thank you, Erik!

Pizzas are expensive and small. Tables and chairs are uncomfortable. Bad Service. Workers hang out at the bar and outside the bar while the owner drives a Porsche really fast around the neighborhood.

Every time I've stopped in everything was perfect, the night chef Brent, is the man.

Agreed on all counts. Great food, when it is great.

Also, the chairs and tables are uneven and not too comfortable...but knowing that he made them I suppose I let that slide.

A word of warning about Cinder Block: the beer is good, but if you plan to have conversation with friends, be prepared to shout. The music is WAY too loud.

Isn't Flying Monkey just a Weston offshoot? I mean, that would explain the taste.

What about Flying Monkey? I guess they are so new no one has heard of them.

What a great compilation! Missouri native here, moving to the Ozarks next month with my Colorado homebrewing boyfriend. Any breweries we have to try down there?
