Can't we just love Joe's and Char Bar? Is that such a crime? :D

actually a 2-meat plate plus side and toast is $11.99. and it's better and you get more of it. not knocking char bar, really, just thought it odd that, of all the petty things that Ferruzza often bitches about, he failed to mention that Char Bar is quite expensive. i have lived in KC all my life and have been to dozens of bbq places, and Char Bar is the most expensive I have ever been to (granted I have not yet been to Q39).

Re: “The Golden Ox goes to pasture, JJ's returns, and more restaurants open and close

where am I going to get Ox tails now? Kokopelli's sucked - but your PV folks still can get your fake Mexican at Salty Iguana.

Re: “Char Bar Smoked Meats & Amusements is killing it in Westport

Hey Ollie Hates....a 2-meat plate with a side at Joe's Kansas City is $13.29 to $13.89. And you get a VERY limited beer selection there with nothing in the way of atmosphere. You might do some research for similar BBQ joints before posting a concern about the prices.

Re: “Char Bar Smoked Meats & Amusements is killing it in Westport

good food, great beer selection, fun atmosphere - but no mention of the extremely high prices? a "2-meat" plate with a side is like $14. it's BBQ, so you get plenty full, but the portions are about 1/4 what you get at places for half the price. obviously this is more of a "scene" and not traditional Q, but still i think it's worth mentioning. a basically meat plate + beer + tip was like $25 for me recently.

Re: “Lawrence's Ladybird rewrites the rules for a great diner — starting with the pie

I also work across the street and eat there at least once a week. The breakfasts are very good. I have had almost everything on the menu. I highly recommend the hot roast beef plate, the egg salad sandwich, and the chicken fried steak. As for the pies, the peanut butter is fantastic. I am also a fan of the coconut cream and the London Fog which is a lavender cream pie flavored with lavender and Earl Gray Tea. Delicious. The service is friendly and the prices are awesome! #wewantpie

Re: “Reimagining the Plaza with savory local fare

I don't live in KC anymore, haven't since 2003-- but the Plaza was where I worked, lived and played. Now, whenever I am back, I rarely even go near the Plaza. It's just not even recognizable anymore. All chains, no boutique shops, no real fine dining. What a shame. But--- the only thing for certain in life is CHANGE (as they say). And, man... did it change! :(

Re: “Can a hit restaurant's kid sister survive growing pains?

I've only been to the new Lulu's once, and it was about 50/50 good and bad. My boyfriend and I love the original Lulu's.. (Lawrence anyone?!).. but the SW Blvd spot has gone downhill. My usual is the peanut noodles, and always has been (although I tried a new dish at the new Lulu's), and I can definitely say that the portion size has decreased by HALF from when they were still in their first SW Blvd spot. The last time I got noodles with chicken in them, the chicken tasted like it had been boiled two nights before and left out to dry up on the counter. LuLu's... what happened to you?!?!

Re: “Can a hit restaurant's kid sister survive growing pains?

I have found my last two trips to the crossroads location and my one (and only) trip to the bistro to be terrible experiences. My wife used to be their biggest fan but she won't go back to either also.

Wow I'm shocked. Charles didn't like a restaurant in KC - surprise surprise.

Re: “Summit Grill & Bar replaces Waldo's Remedy with a better tonic

Sadly my second visit was not as good as my first. We went for Sunday morning brunch, but left without ordering. From the beginning I could tell that the upbeat personality it seemed to have just a few days ago was not present today... Even after finding out that Lauren, the great server we had at our previous visit, was not there, we pressed on, armed with our holiday coupon, hoping for the best. I was more than a little dismayed to be shown to a dirty table nestled between two full tables. The restaurant was half empty but they were piling everyone in one part of the restaurant. I don't get this scenario. Why do guests have to practically be sitting on top of each other and servers squeezing between tables/ against guests when there was plenty of space (and servers) available?? Although our server was very polite, I can only handle so much disappointment before I've had coffee(that was just sitting there, undrinkable, as I waited an eternity to NOT get sugar and cream). Maybe I was expecting too much... With the limited breakfast options in this area, I really wanted to like it here... We will try again, but not at brunch AND, I will know that if the host isn't smiling and none of the servers (including the bartender) bother to smile when we enter, I'll just turn around.

Re: “Summit Grill & Bar replaces Waldo's Remedy with a better tonic

We've been through this Skinny. It's not a chain. Since when is a two restaurant operation owned by two guys who live in KC a chain? I live in waking distance and have had many fantastic meals here.

Chains usually won't last in our little Waldo neighborhood.
