Real latkes? I may weep tears of joy.
I probably won't even give them a try if they aren't putting a rueben on a griddle-blaspheme! (not to mention there's no chewy crust on the bread-they are dead to me)
I've been there once. Had the pastrami on rye. The meat and bread were good, but the thing was tiny. The waitress (why a deli needs a waitstaff in the first place is beyond me) told us that each sandwich came with 1/2lb of meat. There is not way this had 1/2lb of meat (maybe 1/4lb?). I was still hungry when I finished. When I eat at a "jewish" deli, I want my pastrami or corned beef piled high a la "new york bakery & deli" style.
It was decent, and I will probably go back but will be hoping for a bigger sandwich.
You can wait, they just put out a Groupon. Which is usually a sign that they're struggling for business. I like the ambiance of the Brookside location, but the staff makes that place so off putting.
I'm heading back again before this spot gets popular!
Tanner's is starting to look good again - Great drink prices!
Well well, such serious comments. I am from the Bay Area and have been to the original and it was great. Once a place does the franchise thing, stuff changes.
I have had a great time every time I have been to the KC Marys, and that's what its about. We are not talking about the Ritz here, so lighten up people! Miles
Food was verging on good, service and sound levels needed some fine tuning (less hipsters, more knowledgeable waitstaff please). Once the restaurant gets over itself, I'll return.
Charles, you write so beautifully. You totally nailed the glory of a hit restaurant in its early weeks.
I was at Remedys last night - Boring?
Good Review By Skinz Cakes
The food is great. When my hearing returns from the incredibly loud music, I will return again with ear plugs
Waldo's newest hot spot is called SPLOOZ! It's got everything Lee Iacoccacaine Java Waffle Enemas! Scrappletinis with a slim jim garnish; an amuse buche of Christ the King Kloseted Lesbian pancake breakfast bites; SoBro (South Brookside) n' lime smoothies with a bobby baker's parking lot gravel rimming; THIS PLACE IS THE BEST IT'S GOT SLY RICK JAMES'S; StE'S TRASH; ABANDONED SUSHI; OSCO BRAND LIQOUR; & HUMAN DUIY SCOOTERS.
Love this place creative and innovative staff. The food and cocktails are some of the bast i have had. Thanks for bringing something great to Waldo.
Just a wee bit late to the party on this, but I just tried Magnolia's for the first time.
-The music was Muzak versions of pop songs of the last 7-8 years. I nearly spooned everything out of my ears, so I wouldn't have to listen anymore.
-I had probably driven past 6 or 7 times without realizing it over the last couple months. It's really difficult to tell there's a restaurant there.
-My BLT was excellent, as she couldn't have improved upon that bacon. Outstanding.
-The mac n cheese was also very good.
-My server reminded me of a character Fred Armisen would play on SNL. He was very nice and attentive, thankfully, as I am not a Fred Armisen fan.
Chuck or the Bro's - What happened to Waldo?
We looooved the food and service. Prices were right on, too. We will definitely return soon!
I enjoyed the new location, but we had the worst service ever! We came in at 11 a.m. on a Saturday, and everyone assumed we wanted dim sum, but we didn't...that didn't seem to stop the waiting staff from asking us every 5 minutes if we wanted dim sum! We had to ask for menus, we didn't get our appetizer order, and we waited a half hour for our lunch order...but the food was great. All in all an enjoyable lunch, but staff get your act in together!
I was at Remedys earlier this week and the food was good, but the bar and music was boring.
Re: “Marv's Original Delicatessen reaches for authenticity in Leawood”
We actually do grill the reubens!! They are in no way shape or form "toasted"
