Cheryl, you might also ask your instructors to explain the difference between hard news and a feature, and the different expectations for the two.

Cheryl, as a journalism student, you should be aware most journalists don't write their own headlines. That's typically the purview of the copy editors or layout folks.

Re: “Paul Davis is the quiet turtle vying to unseat hare-brained Gov. Sam Brownback

You know I don't like a lot of what Brownback has done, but your headline should not have called him hare-brained. I am not impressed with the way you write. I am a journalism education major. Headlines should not express opinions. Just let the facts state the obvious. Writers on the web, especially, do not seem to have learned ANY journalism writing skills at all.

Re: “No Contest

When I was young I went to this same doctor for years, and know his family as well. I married a well educated health care professional (as am I) and had her go to Dr. Culp in the late 1980s. She came home upset & angry but would not tell me much, other than she would never go back. Years later, after the conviction, she told me that Culp had been very inappropriate with her. She said she didn't tell me at the time because she was afraid I would go shoot him. While I didn't have that kind of animosity towards him, I do want mention that there are two sides to Dr. Culp. I find my wife 100% credible.

Re: “Does the International House of Prayer have designs on Hyde Park?

I understand that the house has always had multiple entrances. What I fail to understand is why he kept them all, and even sealed one of them off to exclusively serve as a 2nd a 1st floor entrance. I also fail to understand the various basement entrances. As far as plumbing, how many single family homes in this area do you know of that have three laundry rooms, one on each floor? His organization has a distinct history of dormitory use. The legal document (which I have SEEN) clearly has a write in of his own choosing to divide the property up. The only agenda here is on the part of him and IHOP. They are not the victims. They are the perpetrators.

Re: “Does the International House of Prayer have designs on Hyde Park?

I went to this house WAY before it was sold to Johnny and it was always pre-framed in the basement from previous seller and the doors were ALWAYS there..At least for years before he bought it. Not sure how you state that plumbing and electrical are made for multi family because from my experience with electric, this looks like one electric meter for the whole house. People are making a fuss over something that never happened..He is selling it as a "single family" why are you speaking as if he is already renting it as a multi-family? I think there is a clear hidden agenda that is causing direct assault. I am so thankful that this piece of crap has been remodeled and is listed for sale and i won't believe any bad intention until I see it - then there is the law to protect the neighborhood.

Re: “Does the International House of Prayer have designs on Hyde Park?

Anob- Yes, the writer DID speak to the city. I know this because I wrote him and had a nice conversation about what is going on with this house. Not only that, the document the writer references (which I have seen by the way) clearly shows what the intention of Johnny/Glad Heart Realty are. His intentions are to use it as a multi family if he cannot sell it as a single family.

As far as featuring the house on the front page of the Glad Heart website? Nothing more than a sad attempt to cover up lies. Johnny referenced craigslist ads and open houses that he has hosted here (multiple). He has posted one Craigslist ad and the only open house he posted was a direct result of this article and the huge fallout over this on other social media. Not only that, they could probably do a better job of trimming weeds and keeping the yard mowed considering it's one of the highest priced homes in all of midtown (excluding Janssen Place, and Rockhill), or even Union Hill and Beacon Hill for that matter! Speaking of marketing, he also has selective expertise when it comes to marketing (subdivision, price, comps). Either he has no idea what he is doing or he is not disclosing that he knows full and well that his high price is in place to purposely not to sell the home. Anybody who is smart enough to figure out how he can zone a house in Grandview as a "bed and breakfast" solely for IHOP short term/long term stay members (and to side step zoning laws) is smart enough to figure out marketing and comps. He's done it before, he is doing it again. I'm just saying....

I went to the open house. The home has MULTIPLE entrances, some of which only give access to certain floors. All dead-bolted. The home's electrical and plumbing service coming into the house also clearly point to the multi family use. The basement was also partially pre-framed to be finished. He is saying that if he takes less than $300,000 for the house that he will take a loss. He bought the house for $30,000, so that's $270,000 in renovations. Bottom line, I don't see $270,000 in renovations. The house was already gutted when he bought it, which is a huge expense saved. It also did not require any extensive foundation repair work (no evidence seen), and even if it did it wouldn't be $270,000 worth! There was zero work done to the outside of this home (new windows, vinyl siding, and roof were not touched-they were already done when he bought the house), with the exception of a new porch breadboard ceiling and front door. All the materials in this house are stock materials, though clean looking, are not expensive at all. Frankly if he invested $270,000 on renovating this house it only shows what poor decisions he made with renovations when he clearly agreed that he would renovate it, sell it, and market it at a reasonable price. Let me put this in perspective. There are brand new stick built homes in Union Hill selling in $300s, cheaper than this home is listed at. Though they are not as large building a new home FROM SCRATCH is MUCH more expensive than renovating an existing home due to the high cost of concrete and land, especially in that area. Frankly, the materials in the union hill homes are nicer than the materials used in this house too. Interesting.....

The responses to our resistance to be forced to accept this horrific abuse of zoning and of our neighborhood have been things like "Religious bigotry!!!!" and "Religious intolerance!!!" Frankly, THIS organization is the intolerant party. They were involved in the death to gays bill in Uganda. Statements about Jewish people from their leader Mike Bickle is horrifying at best. Simply put the organization is intolerant, destructive, and they terrorize people. Calling me intolerant is like calling a mugger intolerant because the victim finally decided to hit back and defend themselves.

Re: “Does the International House of Prayer have designs on Hyde Park?

Wait, if Johnny and Glad Heart have a hidden intention of not selling the property, why are they promoting it on the front page of Glad Heart as a featured house and why is the writer criticizing them for promoting it in the front page? Isn't that a contradiction? You blame them for not trying to sell it and you blame them for trying to sell it. Sounds like the writer has personal issues with IHOP that is getting in his way of fair journalism. Did he even speak to the city to get some facts straight?

She might want to contact NORML, and see if they can provide her with an attorney.

They did so for a friend of mine on a weed charge.
