Re: “Joy Biggs watched her sister die in a jail cell over an ounce of pot

And there I was thinking the hillbilly sheriff was confined to fictitious films like Copland. We may have crap weather 10 months of the year but at least we have free medical care and a fairer justice system.

Re: “"Right to farm" doesn't mean farming right. Far from it

KiKi Curls is just another version of Sarah Palin. Freebies, "donations" and political payoffs for her and her family. This Senator has not seen a free lunch she didn't like or turn down.
The 9th should turn this grifter out of office.

This is a throwback of 75 years. to the days when the fat overweight Deputy with the dark sunglasses and the big hog leg come up to the car and says YOU IN A HEAP OF TROUBLE BOY.

Why isn't the ACLU suing the pants off of this county. $10 million at least, for wrongful death.

Re: “Why is a new, no-kill animal shelter still sitting empty in Independence?

Independence animal shelter-may as well take your dog from there straight to the vet because it's going to have parvo! And don't use the vet on the south side of 23rd street, I took my dog there and requested an IV because he was dehydrated from vomiting. They did NOTHING-and my dog died. {they did not want to go to the trouble of sanitizing the room afterwards-they isolated him and LET HIM DIE a horrible death)It really broke my heart. I feel like I let my best buddy down because I trusted a vet to do what he was supposed to do and I went to work. It was Three Trails Animal shelter-I would suggest another vet that actually cares about LIFE.

Screw you Three Trails animal hospital! I hope the place burns down and you all die.

Re: “"Right to farm" doesn't mean farming right. Far from it

Since "corporations are people, my friend," it doesn't take an attorney from the Revisor's Office to figure out what this boondoggle is all about.

Intensive hog and chicken farming polluting groundwater, streams and rivers? Too bad, so sad. It's Tyson and Farmland's "right" to farm.

GMO crops cross-pollinating the neighbors corn field? Monsanto has a "right" to farm and protect their patents by suing the neighbor for "theft".

These are just a couple of examples of the potential here to strip the EPA and State agencies of any power to regulate big agra and their environmentally unsound farming practices.

All cleverly disguised in another empty political soundbite that appeals to warm and fuzzy traditional values. Another big corporate Trojan Horse.

I mean, after all, who would vote against the right of good old Ma and Pa to work their 40 acres and the mule drawn plow?

More corporate lies and BS.

Don't fall for it.

To simplify, if Monsanto is for it, vote NO.

Re: “"Right to farm" doesn't mean farming right. Far from it

Of note to getting this on the ballot is Missouri Sen. Kiki Curls from the 9th district.

In the Missouri records, Ms. Curls was originally against this amendment when it was being argued. However it was Ms Curl's single vote that changed and got it onto the ballot after several failed votes in the Senate. Now the PAC Ms Curls is aligned with, Freedom Inc, has distributed a flier in several local media sources supporting a "yes" vote on this amendment. So what changed? Why did a Senator representing an almost entirely urban district suddenly get interested in farming? Looking at campaign disclosure records could it be the paid for trip to Israel by biotech groups? Was it the dinners paid for by Monsanto and other Ag groups? Was it all the jobs it will create for the 9th district? I guess we'll never know. But I fail to see why this amendment would do anything to help the 9th district.

If this passes her district can look forward to relief from the "food desert" by more processed food as a source of nutrition in an area known for higher rates of heart disease and diabetes.

Re: “"Right to farm" doesn't mean farming right. Far from it

The Family Farmer has replaced The Noble Savage, a myth perpetuated into fact.

This law would give more protection to the puppy mills, the factory farms and the plow-it-then-put-it-in-CRPers.

Like laws which exempt those fracking from having to tell people what chemicals they are pumping into the ground, this will keep illegal and questionable practices in agriculture from being exposed. Keeping the perps safe, comfy and profitable.

It's a corn-and-soybean-ghetto in the Heartland and the family farmer died when Joe Leuter was able to ignore the Packers and Standards law and turn hog farmers into janitors.

Re: “Joy Biggs watched her sister die in a jail cell over an ounce of pot

They should not have been in jail in the first place over pot ! How in the world did things come to this? I can not believe in America a woman who stuck her 6 yr. old son with Downs Syndrome in the attic and was starving him to death and was within hours of succeeding when police found him could only be given a prison sentence of 8 1/2 yrs. That was the max the judge could give her under Kansas law and we have 21 people doing life sentences for pot. Sure it was more than the sisters had on them but it is pot!! A victimless crime. Goodland needs to drop this and stop making a spectacle out of their city and asses out of themselves.

Brent Davis-"It's western Kansas, you know what I mean?" says family lawyer Bill Norton. "It's a bad deal all the way around."

'Nuff said.

The last time I drove to the west coast, I took I-44 west on the way out and I-80 east on the way back just so I didn't have to drive through kansas.

She might want to contact NORML, and see if they can provide her with an attorney.

They did so for a friend of mine on a weed charge.

You know, I keep telling you guys that working in the "justice" system isn't the sort of job that attracts nice people. Starting to believe me yet?
