Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

Using purely governmental logic the streetcar is better than a bus because it is less flexible, costs more, and is cute.

Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

Disappointed at how the cost of this project is structured. Are we idiots? No. We must keep an eye on the future, but this just doesn't cut the mustard.

I especially feel as if I, a property owner within the boundaries of this project's reach, am being asked to kick-in MORE of my hard-earned $$$ to help fund it. Will I ever use it? Doubtful, but that's not the overriding objection you hear from me. The devil is in the details & WE are going to get stuck, mark my words.

Is this a back-door attempt to tack property taxes onto our yearly bills -considering how the Board of Equalization attempted to rake us over the coals this past Winter, but were shouted down?

KC has high sales taxes, period. Oh, so let's raise them. Way to go when it comes to enticing people from out of town to come & spend $$$ here. We need more hotel rooms, not a light rail system. Is our public transportation system in the red?

I see ONE MENTION in all of this about the fares, money that should be extracted from USERS' pockets to fund this project. Not my pocket, thank you.

I was asked to be part of a recent phone survey in which my opinion of this project was solicited. My response then was "well, okay, IF..." but seeing how this is structured, how convoluted it is, and certainly back-dooring special tax assessments for property owners within 1/3 of a mile of the line is idiotic.

I believe what will happen is our Mayor will discover -like Mayors past did- that KC voters aren't as gullible as to simply shell out $$$ for anything. We need to prioritize our City's future & I don't believe this is the best way to do it or go about it. I will vote NO. Stop sticking your hands into my wallet!

Re: “Big money flowing into the streetcar campaign

We have street trams here in Manchester (UK), the first major British city to bring them back in the 1990s after the tracks were ripped up in favour of cars. It started with only a couple of lines but the network now branches out all across the city. Each new stop means property prices go up and new developments go in (no surprise that real estate companies are contributing to the KC campaign).

Our network takes millions of cars off the roads. It lets people go into town for a night out without worrying about not finding a spot to park the car or having one drink too many (no wonder Boulevard Beers have pitched in a few bucks). Many people are quite happy doing without cars altogether. It's a pleasure to commute with a book in my lap while someone else does the driving.

I have the option to take the bus into work but I take the tram because the bus has a tendency to pull over every 50 yards, the journey is not as smooth and it often gets stuck in traffic. In no way are our trams ugly - they are quite sleek and the electricity supply adds no more clutter to the street than lightpoles and telephone wires.

My folks remember when they could catch the interurban streetcar in Independence KS in the 1940s and zip down to Coffeyville for the day (both towns with about 10,000 people). In many ways public transportation 70-100 years ago was far better so don't get your noses out of joint by 'Victorian' technology.

Re: “How do you say 'Beard winner Michael Smith' in Spanish? Cocobolos

I'd rather drive to Manhattan and get the Evil Desert Chicken. I'm sure this is good in it's own right, but when I hear Coco Bolos I have too many delicious memories that pop up in my head.

Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

The streetcar to nowhere. Because so many people need to get to Linwood and Prospect.

I wonder how many people on an average weekday go between City Market, downtown and Crown Center. Can't be that many, and I doubt more than 15-20 people after the lunch hour.

Great article. My favorite line: "...I high-fived my raft mates and decided to stress-eat a funnel cake."

Insane, and awesome!

Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

Other cities around the World that Have MONORAILS that are above city streets and don't impede traffic and move people faster than some dumb ol' street car !!

Sydney Australia Monorail : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ-rBUV2SIY

Dubai / United Arab Emirates Monorail : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2RWU2K843w

INDIA Monorail : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37GU0GHWl4E

Walt Disney World Monorail : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSE4spwRMwE

The Las Vegas Monorail : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8c_wLenjNI

Kansas City Leaders like Sly James and his Clueless Cronies, are so Inept, and clueless its ridlicious, Sly James has NO vision of the Future nor do his cronies who support a Dumb Slow Street car that impedes traffic and does nothing to bring Kansas City into the Future of transportation !

Their out to line their pockets secretly under the table at everyone elses expense is what their doin !

Should of went with the MONORAIL System, that actually Benefits the city and its people, and goes from KCI Airport all the way down to the PLAZA and points in between !!!

Brain dead idiots and morons at city hall with NO real vision of the future !!

Their all Corrupt Fraudulent and Phony Bullshitz artists is what they are !

An Investigation into WHY the Monorail wasn't chosen needs to be done,,,

Why Multi Billions for a street car that's only going to go for like 3 miles ????

A MONORAIL system, does NOT Require a Driver either - their operated by Computer, and requires no actual driver , are very efficient and never leave the tracks, and are above traffic, therefore never impede traffic or foot traffic

See Videos above to see what a Monorail is, how it works - then ask yourself WHY are City leaders fooling with some Dumb street car technology idea this day and age ???

and these Supposed City leaders call themselves leaders ????

more like Fraudusters and Corrupteers !!!!

Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

These City Morons who think the Street car project is such a good idea are Clueless idiots !! that's a FACT !!!

Billions for a street car that only runs what 3 miles ?????

What Kansas City really needed was a "MONORAIL" system like Las Vegas has - that sits up high on it own tracks and doesn't impede traffic in any way !

Whats a Monorail ???

Disney has one in California and Orlando as well.

Heres some actual video of the Vegas Monorail

Monorail Video # 1 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsMlXu09ghs

Monorail Video # 2 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMqNfx7yGH8

Re: “Big money flowing into the streetcar campaign

I was in Vegas in December 2013, and rode their MONORAIL, that's what KC really needed a Monorail, that goes further than 100 feet, like this Phony supposed street car is gonna do, for Billions of dollars .

Street Car, might as well billed it as the Flintstone mobile for the new century !!!

and the supporters of this phony street car when it does a Big ol' Belly Flop will be no-where to be found in the end !! as usual !

Re: “The (sales) tax man cometh for Kansas City, Missouri, voters [updated]

Not sure I fully understand how on North Oak Trafficway the sales tax at Sam's Club is 8.1% on purchases, yet the Wendy's across the street charges 11.13%. Guess I'm missing something.

Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

We are ten to fifteen years away from driverless cars. Imagine how silly these streetcars would look then. The streetcar project is not a thoughtful solution to transportation problems. It's a high-priced gimmick.
