Re: “The endless drama of the Kansas City Blues Society

there is always conflict of interest when one becomes elected into a position of any sort. there are always going to be people who are unhappy about the election. and feel the wrong person got elected.. keep in mind that he was fairly elected by his peers and are apparently confident in his abilitys after serving one year as president. ive head of this contencious woman before, and she has it in for js.. really this woman needs to get a life and move on.

Re: “The endless drama of the Kansas City Blues Society

The article is accurate. I have no vested interest in either side and am just a fan who is completely disgusted with the abuses and lack of transparency from Joe Sherrick and his gang. It is very telling that Joe insists on muzzling the board and hiding information which should be shared with the KCBS. He is a very negative, mean-spirited bully if you aren't one of his friends or someone who can do something for him. I picked this up long before I knew who he was, and just knew him as "that short, mean dude I see at blues events and try to sit far away from."

Re: “The endless drama of the Kansas City Blues Society

JW, a very uneducated comment about how the IBC winner is chosen. There is a panel of non-biased judges, who have no information about the musicians in the competition. And attacking a local blues band? That's very counter-productive for the blues scene. Sounds to me like this comment is from someone whose talent couldn't cut it to win the competition.

Re: “The endless drama of the Kansas City Blues Society

Joe has the public speaking skills of a nervous 3rd grader giving their first book report
to the class. Oh wait.. perhaps this is a "short man syndrome" issue. Plus the election farce we dealt with (who ever heard of votes in a plain large envelope being transported
to who knows where with no chain of custody?) Laughable.. I show up and often play at few jams around town and enjoy the IBC events..until this year. Sorry to say the Band (not the solo-duo) act chosen by (I'm sure a nudging from the "Little" man himself) was a comedy of error's. I heard several comments in Memphis to the tune of "What was KCBS thinking of sending this circus side show to compete and represent? Definitely didn't help our rep down there. Thanks again JS. I've heard several musicians and band members say the same. Longing for the days of old I suppose. Lost all hope in this so called "society".

The ball is in Joe's court now. He can either throw the ball towards the hoop, or take his big feet and flatten it.

Re: “The endless drama of the Kansas City Blues Society

Joe pours his heart and soul into the KCBS. How dare these ex board members speak ill of him. Before Joe was the president, the KCBS was ran without business sense. It was a clique of people, who showed favoritism to their friends. Every organization must produce some sort of revenue to keep it going. Joe has done more in the few short years as president than any of these previous board members. This article is completely one sided and biased. And how is this story worthy of the front page of the Pitch Weekly? Isn't there more important issues to cover in Kansas City? This is just a bunch of middle aged former board members, who are upset because they got voted off the board. They got VOTED off the board because they can't fulfill their duties properly. Stop crying like a bunch of Johnson County teenagers, whose daddy didn't buy them their favorite BMW for their birthday.

Re: “The endless drama of the Kansas City Blues Society

Great article that shines a light on the ridiculous things going on with KCBS. The more I've seen over the past few years, the farther I've distanced myself from that whole group. It's all about power, greed and ego with Joe Sherrick leading the parade. Very sad to see the wonderful KCBS of the past dissolve into this petty band of bullies and egomaniacs. I'm an active supporter of the live blues in KC and other cities, but cannot stand the childish, disreputable antics from the board of the KCBS. Joe and his cronies need to go. Until they do, nothing will change.

Re: “The endless drama of the Kansas City Blues Society

Failed to mention that people who are supposedly blues supporters boycotted the blue fest because they didn't like who was running it. Very nice one-sided story....much like Tue KCBS responses page.

Re: “The endless drama of the Kansas City Blues Society

Fresh air and sunshine cure most ills. The Blues Society is a lil' kingdom which is interested solely in the amassing of power.

They are king of the dipshits, the bands and fans deserve far better than they get for their efforts.

I miss the Blues Fest. Had a blast going to those back in the 90's.

Sounds to me like Joe needs to go.

Re: “The endless drama of the Kansas City Blues Society

we have had better results joining the Bluesiacs, a blues-lovin' meet-up group. There, it's just about the music, having fun, learning about new groups that are in town or are coming to town. I was a member of the Grand County Blues Society in Winter Park, CO when I lived out there, and for a small community, they kicked ASS! Now their blues festival is becoming one of the best in the country. It's a pity a town the size of KC, and with the heritage and history of the blues, can't do better in creating a supportive organization then they have with KCBS. Makes you wonder what the BS really stands for!

Sounds like the crap the KC Film Festival is going through. They just dumped the clown that hijacked the festival and ran it into the ground. Beware of power hungry twolls!

Joe is two parts hubris and two parts nepotism. He wants all the power and fame he can muster, but he isn't smart enough to know how to get it.

Re: “The Blight King

This is Richard Tolbert. I was asked if any of the article was true. The answer is that perhaps 5% of the article is true. The rest of the article is false, taken out of context, and libelous. Ms Pflum never actually interviewed me for the article, nor did she ever give me the opportunity to rebutt the statements made against me.
I believe she wrote the article to punish me for saying that hip-hop is a crock of "stuff", at a previous meeting of the Eggs and Enlightenment group. She went out and interviewed my enemies and opponents, and presented their biased statements as gospel. She seems to have done no fact checking, and a close reading of what she wrote shows that she drew the wrong inferences from much of what she presented as facts.

Re: “All crushed out on these 12 Kansas Citians

to real job mcgee......and you're suprised....this is the Pitch ..... the paper that makes it's money pimping escorts and massage "therapists", so it can spew leftwing tripe. But then again.....you're not going to get much better journalism at the Star either. I look at both of these rags as entertainment.....kind of like a cartoon strip ....with a bonus.....they give you insight to the vapid soul of the left.

Re: “Davy Rothbart's heart is an idiot, but he's nobody's fool

Sorry, this article is poorly reported -- you're just taking Davy Rothbart's statements at face value. You allow Rothbart to imply that the Innocence Project has taken this case. Have they? I don't think so, but if they have please actually report that instead of letting Rothbart make a passing reference that implies they have.

Also, you make a huge error by saying he was convicted mostly based on the taped phone call, and that Kelly was close to Justin, Byron and Anastasia at the time of the murder. Not "close," she was an eye witness to the murder, and she testified about what she saw. All of the testimony and other evidence, taken together, is what convicted Byron Case. John Allen has not uncovered any "new information."

And Davy Rothbart, I do think you are being duped by a "mastermind criminal" -- or at least a very intelligent, charming sociopath.
