Love this place! Great atmosphere and the food is amazing. Way to go Barb and Mono!

Re: “Best Old-School Barbershop

Vince is the very very best - but he talks to the television. I've had hair cuts in Miami, Washington, DC, Topeka, Oklahoma City LA, and Bostson.. Vince is the best.

Re: “BEST NEW BARBECUE RESTAURANT

Ate there Saturday and although the meat was excellent and cooked to perfection, I did not like any of the sauces. Way too thick and sweet and all three seemed like something you would pull off a grocery store shelf. The BBQ bean were excellent, best I have had in KC. If they ever get the sauces right this will be a real contender for best BBQ place in KC.

Re: “BEST BAKED BEANS

Sorry, not overly impressed with the BBQ here, didn't like any of the sauces, but, you got it right on the beans! Excellent texture and taste, best I have had in KC. Now if someone could just make decent potato salad which I have yet to have at any BBQ joint in KC!

Re: “BEST RIBS

I agree with the quality of the food here and it is, by far, my favorite KC barbecue place, but, a while back they went to a new cut of ribs, much shorter, still the same weight but shorter. You use to be able to order a "long end plate" which far and away the best ribs in KC. The new ribs are excellent but I certainly miss the long ends of days gone by.

Re: “BEST BURNT ENDS

Have not tried Plowboys but how they could beat the absolutely perfectly cooked, super tender burnt ends at Oklahoma Joes (yes it will always be Oklahoma Joes to me) is beyond belief. I will make an effort to get to Plowboys so I can make a more informed comparison but beating the burnt ends at Oklahoma Joes will take a Herculean effort.

Re: “BEST STEAK-DINNER DEAL

Like I said in the Best Steak review. Nothing wrong with the steaks at the Capital Grille or in this case J. Gilberts, but, the absolute best steak for the money in KC (and best pork chops, by the way) is Strouds! Yes, yes everyone knows about the chicken but if you haven't tried the steak and the broiled pork chops you are really missing out. Very hard to choose the best steak place in Kansas City, but, for quality meat cooked just right with terrific sides, it has to be Strouds!

Re: “BEST TACOS

Sorry you are WAY off. Had the 3 taco plate here twice and was majorly disappointed both times. Tacos were very bland and very small. I love Michael Smith and his other restaurants but Cocobolos is certainly not up to his usual standards.

Re: “BEST BAR SCENE

Sammy Fabac ran a great bar (and was a great cousin!). The Colonial was formerly nicknamed "Shorty's" and then "Cliff's" after respective bartender/owners. Breit's has my vote as the best one now.

Re: “BEST TACOS

Yeah......really? The best tacos in KC are from a dude named Michael Smith? Artfully displayed? Pickled cabbage? Ay, Dios mio!

Re: “BEST BOUNCEBACK

My TV turns on at 5am everyday and yea, I changed the channel to KCTV now. Now I still watch Lisa religiously, but also follow Hallie Shulman now. They are both fun, friendly faces and a joy to watch. KMBC doesn't make sense anymore. Lisa, Hallie and the Chiefs?? Plus Thursday Night Football? That is what's bringing all the boys to the yard... It ain't the milkshakes....

Re: “BEST BOUNCEBACK

We don't watch Channel 9 near as much as we used to and we never watch the news and weather on 9 anymore. We spend most of our time on other channels now. I can't wait to see what the Arbitron ratings show this next time. They definitely got rid of the wrong people and it seems that the weather forecasts are wrong more often than they are right.

Re: “BEST BOUNCEBACK

These two losses combined with several of my favorite daytime show lost have turned me into a channel surfer and no longer consider 9 my favorite after at least 30 years. Sad as I do well with change usually; but I don't think 9 is reading the public pulse very well anymore. Too much sensationalism that they used to accuse another station of; less quality reporting and too much patting themselves on the back. I love Laura and Kelly; but I also loved Maria Antonio; Lisa T, and Joel.
