Went this Saturday for brunch around 10am. Very minimal wait, nice atmosphere, friendly service. Food was delicious!! Glad to have another great breakfast place in westport now that my beloved Boot is gone!
I am a father of three children under 4, and when my wife and I pay a babysitter and go out to a nice dinner, we do NOT want to hear screaming kids which is exactly what we are getting away from. Yes, we bring our kids to restaurants, but only restaurants frequented by kids, and early. We had dinner at the Bristol this weekend after 7:00 and had to listen to screaming kids - they should NOT have been there.
I love children....as long as they are cooked all the way through.
But seriously folks, unless you can control your children (you know who you are), get a sitter.
Maybe use a banquet room for patrons with offspring if the owner is that worried about young kids being a potential threat to business.
As a last resort, you take your kids to Applebees until you're confident they've learned enough manners so that they can behave at a NICE place.
It probably has come to this...because some parents don't know which restaurants are kid appropriate......Spin Pizza? Sure......Extra Virgin? No.
Be smart about where you take your kids and this wouldn't be an issue.
And to those without kids, don't expect to go anywhere that has a kids menu and not see kids.
@MsBunny. They are in Kansas City, Kansas.
It is good to hear about the progress made by women like Carolyn Yates in different fields.

So many super hero movies, so little distinction.
Was the writer of this review paid by the parenthetical? ("dude, please" indeed.)
My uncle.. My best friend
The Star says one of the owners was stretched too thin, as he owns Conroy's at 95th & Nall (it's OK, but the decor is very austere, in a bad way) and Mike's on Troost (yeah, I'll park my car outside there after dark, sure), as well as two places in New York and a bagel shop in Ireland. It also says his mother died in Ireland in May after a stroke, and he's traveling there often to sort out her estate. It's too bad, because we liked The Gaf, and although it's closer to home, the family wasn't thrilled with Conroy's. Hopefully they will move some of the staff and decor from The Gaf there. The new owners of The Gaf's space are going to open it up a bit, expand the patio, and introduce more fresh seafood. Yay.
We never had a problem with taking our kid anywhere to eat. By the time she was 5 or 6 she would politely decline any children's menu offered her.
I personally find that loud, obnoxious children and inattentive parents significantly detract from my dining experience. So do loud, obnoxious adults. I have no problem whatever with restaurants that remove or ban such distractions, and would dine at them regularly if the food and service were good.
As far as the notion that restaurants and fellow diners having to bear some of the responsibility of teaching youngsters how to behave in public ("the only serious way that youngsters truly developed a sense of behaving properly in a restaurant dining room was to actually eat in a restaurant dining room") - pfui. If you teach your children to be well-behaved when eating at home, at friends' and relatives' homes, and at parties and picnics, the behavior naturally extends to other places. It's not my job to help your child learn not to scream, cry, run around, or throw food just because I happen to be eating in the same establishment as you.
As a note, I like the Alamo Drafthouse approach to patrons who behave badly. Provide a clear set of behavioral guidelines. You get one warning, then you're out without a refund. In a restaurant setting you'd have to collect credit cards and either run a tab or collect a minimum charge to replace the non-refundable ticket part of the equation, but I suspect it would lead to more people behaving better.
Charles, I agree that kids need to learn how to act in a restaurant somehow. The problem is that parents aren't teaching them, hence the screaming, the running around, the bothering other customers that goes unchecked by the parents. Correct your kids when they act a fool, and I'm fine with it. But that so rarely happens. I'm not for a ban, as my kids would never have acted that way. (When they were too little to comprehend how to act, we got take-out - what a concept.) I am for restaurant owners and managers booting families whose kids are ruining other diners' dining experience.
Well I've been a fan of the band since like 88 and I haven't heard or seen anybody or anything sound quite like them. It's fair to say that they haven't written any significant material since the illusions stuff but I believe that their early records and songs are strong enough to be relevant and interesting enough to want to go and see them. I do miss the persona, mystery and raw talent that they displayed on their freshman album (which is the highest selling debut album of all time by any band ever), appetite for destruction. I didn't attend the show because I don't feel the same way about the band that I used to, which is sad. I'm also a rabid slash fan, who in my opinion was the chief songwriter and probably one of the best and original sounding guitarist of all time.
I knew Xavier Von Erck in school. The guy was famous for getting japanese manga with under age girls in it. He told me its called 'lolicon'. He said it wasnt breaking the law because the girls were cartoons. Fastforward several years in the future and I see his face on FoxNews being interviewed about this group he has 'perverted justice' to catch pedos! THIS GUY IS A PEDO HIMSELF! The authorities have their own system of catching pedos online --this group of Xavier's is a front.
momof4 is a true troll. I bow to her. Or him. Cotton candy!!11
Had lunch there Friday it was fabulous and reasonable prices ! A great addition to Johnson county.
How about a restaurant offering a Child Free night once a month. Adults (parents AND child free) can enjoy a quiet evening every once in a while and those with children can drop the self righteous BS about what bastards the rest of us are.
"Doesn't this really discriminate against the parents?"
Can I bring my cat to this restaurant? NO?
Wahhh! Wahhh! Wahhh! Now they're discriminating against cat owners! Wahhhhhhh.
Re: “The Corner returns a little pricier but worth every penny”
Went this past Saturday morning. Liked it, not in love with it yet. Think it still needs tweaking. Beignets were a waste of time-tough not puffy. Breakfast entrees good but not enough pizzazz for price in my book. Understand paying for quality. Am hoping a little more tweaking will help it move into the great category.
