Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

According to the Monday discussion on KCUR, Plaza Vista's assessment will be more like $140,000 when the assessments actually go into effect. The Nextrail map is based off old data.

Re: “Big money flowing into the streetcar campaign

Qikfingers, the streetcars are electric too; no natural gas required! Have you been to larger cities with bus systems? Many of them also run using overhead electric lines the buses are connected to. And your qualm with the streetcars running on a track?! Buses run on a predefined route as well. If they start deviating from that route, their reliability and usefulness drops dramatically. Buses ready to roll? Yes, that's true.

I don't think the streetcar is a good solution to move KC into the 21st century as far as public transportation is concerned. Is it a good start? Eh, maybe? Does it need a ton of work for me to find it useful? Yes.

Somebody remind me ... why is a street car better than a bus?

Re: “"Right to farm" doesn't mean farming right. Far from it

The Family Farmer has replaced The Noble Savage, a myth perpetuated into fact.

This law would give more protection to the puppy mills, the factory farms and the plow-it-then-put-it-in-CRPers.

Like laws which exempt those fracking from having to tell people what chemicals they are pumping into the ground, this will keep illegal and questionable practices in agriculture from being exposed. Keeping the perps safe, comfy and profitable.

It's a corn-and-soybean-ghetto in the Heartland and the family farmer died when Joe Leuter was able to ignore the Packers and Standards law and turn hog farmers into janitors.

We sent them a message with our 84 to 16 percent rejection of the "medical research" proposal. Let's do it again, until they get it. Public servants are supposed to serve the public. Not serve them up on a platter. Just vote no!

I'm with Wink. Heck, you probably wouldn't even have to shoot very many of them before the rest got the message.

Re: “Big money flowing into the streetcar campaign

Big money? Most of these contributors will make big bucks from the streetcar project even if it is a complete failure. Donating $25K is peanuts when it lands you a multi-million dollar contract. And when the project is too far along to stop and contractors have the City on the hook, the change orders will start rolling in for even more money. Money that will dwarf the value of the original agreement. Eventually, greed will kill this project.

Re: “Big money flowing into the streetcar campaign

It's still a ridiculous and wasteful idea, a traffic nightmare, and will be unsightly as hell once the power lines are installed. Take a scenic municipality like Kansas City, slash a jagged scar across its face with 19th Century technology, and you get a street car that's less efficient and more costly than a bus. Funny thing about busses...they're not tied down to a track. They're cheaper, ready to roll, can be fueled by natural gas and electricity, and can operational today. The cost will be a fraction of the half billion needed for this inefficient touristy choo-choo. This is not progress. It's regress. It's just plain dumb.

Re: “Is it time to close the gates on Cliff Drive permanently?

This is a very bad idea that only benefits a handful of people. This is a band aid response to a larger social ill that plagues The North East Area. I grew up in the area. It is urban and so it has urban issues. Some want to make it a exclusive area reflecting in the old mansions on Gladstone Blvd. They would rather build a dog park then maybe have the city hire a private patrol. Lots of possibilities. Closing it only ensures its demise. Once it is closed that vast area will go unchecked and only usable by a few. Not everyone wants to ride a bike, hike or skate board through Cliff Drive. I hope this very bad idea dies on the vine as it should.

Re: “Another Kansas abortion clinic has closed; state now down to three

Jesus, Jack- way to take this waaaaaay out of proportion. So this is how this works, you want to close down centers that offer women options by lying to them and telling them scary stories about turkey basters and brain scrambles? Don't you think it's best that women be properly educated and then have the right to make their own decision, based on real information? Jack, you don't know jack.

They did have a feature... stepped out front with some crazy looking turntable/guitar combo instruments. Can't remember which track it was on, though.
