Re: “Kansas' most vulnerable now have even less health care, thanks to Gov. Brownback

I have provided care to someone that required this level of care, and who had a family as well. First, let me say that they were definitely better off financially (upper middle class), and did not receive quite 24/7 care but close to it....they were also reimbursed for any medical purchases (i.e over the counter meds, etc). When the family cared for this person they were paid. I suspect that the couple was not married by law, despite the wedding pictures on the wall and living together. This family was not satisfied with the number of hours allotted either. They also tried to take advantage of the providers by using them as babysitters, often would prefer to care for the family member on holidays so that staff was not paid the measly holiday pay, as well as asking for "favors" of the staff beyond what should be expected. Despite their level of financial security, they could have paid a sitter as well as a portion of the spouse's care, but they had an attitude of entitlement. Buller reminds me a bit of these people.
In my opinion, it is not fiscally possible to provide 24/7 care to people like this, and it is not necessary. Care should be provided so that a spouse may work, but families should be responsible to provide care for their loved one most of the time that they are home; they should be allowed some respite. Keep in mind that home health workers do household chores and errands as well as provide medical care, this provides a level of respite to the spouse. In Buller's case, I would argue that another 8 hours would be sufficient respite for his wife. It would not bother me if his medical purchases are reimbursed; judging by the picture of his house, they are a middle class.
I think Bullers response to the governor regarding a situation where his ventilator becomes unattached if he is alone is an over reaction. If the state is giving him 40 hours/week then what we can deduce is that he would not be left alone while his wife is at work...this situation would never happen.
Yes, it is a hardship on the family to care for a loved one. But home health is not as cheap as it is puported to be. ONE nurse paid a salary to care for ONE patient is not a savings when in a facility that nurse cares for many more patients. In fact, home health workers are paid less and have far fewer benefits, and it still cost thousands to care for someone at this level in their home.
Although I do not believe that these people should be required to go to facilities, I do believe that the family should be responsible to a certain extent (determined by their income and how it would affect their ability to earn that income).

Re: “Sporting Kansas City snags the last playoff spot, will move to the Western Conference next year

Snag? Try stumbled into. Grossly optimistic given how poor this team has played.

Yeah pretty silly to say that about chill music. There's always a wind down to chill and contemplate. You simply cannot be turnt up 24/7

Re: “Stroud's pans for new customers in southern OP

Just curious which Southeast Kansas Chicken restaurant you dined at & then compared to Banquet Chicken TV dinners? Chicken Annie's, Chicken Mary's, Pickler's Chicken Annie's Barto's Idle Hour, Girard Chicken Annie's or Gebhardt's Chicken? When you are served at any of the restaurants listed above you can be sure the owners are in the kitchen cooking your food from the highest quality food available from scratch/homemade. In a world of pink slime high school student staffed fast food restaurants & chain restaurants, these longtime successful family owned restaurants that have been passed down from generation to generation would be insulted by your comments & so called Banquet TV dinner comparison review. How can you compare SEK famous fried chicken to Stroud's since they serve different fried chicken, different sides & their is a huge price difference between Stroud's & SEK fried chicken. Don't forget the locally baked bread they all serve which is baked daily from the Frontenac Bakery, the homemade onion rings & their famous German Potato salad & German Coleslaw. I remember when all the SEK chicken restaurants pan fried their chicken but most people don't want to wait 45 minutes for their chicken to be fried & all went to the same method of cooking their fried chicken & it tastes the same due to how the chicken is prepared before cooking. It's safe to assume you have insulted SEK chicken restaurant owners & their customers by comparing their fried chicken to the frozen mass produced Banquet chicken TV dinners. These restaurants have thrived for several generations, packed restaurants especially on the weekend from locals & out of state customers along with the owner of the KC restaurant you compared it to along with other locally owned KC restaurant owners that drive to SEK to dine on SEK fried chicken. I know several of them & they would not be happy with your Banquet Chicken TV dinner comment since they also love the SEK fried chicken. A real reporter would have done their homework before printing a review & you would have discovered how may longtime successful KC restaurant owners eat SEK fried chicken, past & present Presidents, Governors, Famous TV & Movie Stars, FOOD NETWORK personalities, chef's & exec's & other famous people that sit at the table next to the locals. How many restaurants open & close each month but 1 SEK fried chicken restaurant just celebrated their 60th anniversary a couple months ago. Picking up SEK fried chicken tonight since Monday night is the only night they make their homemade from scratch chicken & noodles for $7.00 a quart (or dine in for a huge plate for $7.00 with creamy buttery mashed potatoes) & a 5 piece wishbone or breast dinner with German Potato salad & German Coleslaw for $10.50. Stroud's serves excellent Pan Fried Chicken & Mike Donegan is a wonderful man & local KC business owner & we have talked about SEK fried chicken many times & how good it is. Another KC long time successful business owner travels to SEK to eat fried chicken & he owns a longtime famous KC BBQ restaurant & I know neither men would ever compare SEK fried chicken to Banquet Chicken TV dinner.

I'm from San Diego, and I frequent lots of great places here and in Los Angeles.

The food was 'ok', but the owner acted like he cured cancer. Douchebaggery.

Re: “Stroud's pans for new customers in southern OP

I can relate to what Chuck is saying about not all trips for good home-style chicken being as good. My last trip to Stroud's I didn't think was as good as in past and said so to the group I was with. Well silly I as they pointed out, because they all thought it was an excellent meal. The next day after some thought I came to gripes that it wasn’t the meal I wasn't happy about, it was the overall crappy day I had just went through. So I have tried to turn over a new leaf in my life and unless in a good mood while full of jocularly, I will refrain from saying a meal at a local establishment was bad until I have really gave the matter some thought. I mean when your mood is foul, won’t one’s tastes as well tend to be a little fouled?

Re: “Kansas City Wizards reborn as Sporting Kansas City ... whatever that means

Sporting clube de portugal is an eclectic club and not only about soccer it has many other successful sporting activities that've achieved great success over the years! Sporting cp is second in the world with the most trophies won as a club Barcelona is first. They've been around for 108 years and are the only team in the world to have formed 2 FIFA ballon d'oro winners! They are FIGO and Cristiano Ronaldo. Their soccer academy is also one of the best in the world second only to Hollands ajax academy many of the players in portugals national team came from sporting a academy...currently the club is undergoing some heavy restructuring because banks had managed to put their people in the clubs leading roles that nearly bankrupted the club...sporting cp has proposed many new measures to uefa to end corruption in European soccer mainly with the introduction of same technology used in the nfl...so to see wizards change their name to sporting kc and the use of stripes in the jerseys also wanting to be more than just a soccer club creating and opening many other sporting activities that will keep boys and girls away from trouble and create stars that will go on to play for USA national team is to me the greatest form of compliment and nothing to be ashamed of! They just need place a lion on the crest and adopt green and white hoops as their primary colors like sporting cp and it'd be official lol sporting.pt check it out!

Re: “Edward Bagley's victim speaks at sentencing in sex slave case

when someone is subjected to abuse and neglect their entire life, AND they have a mental disability and are impaired, they lack life skills to make decisions and take care of themselves. being exposed to constant trauma, violence, and fear messes with someones head and damages them psychologically, especially when involving the will to survive and having a captor that "punishes" you and "takes care" of you. this is a horrible way to treat a human being. Has anyone heard of "Stockholm syndrome?" there is no way you can blame the victim in cases like this.

Re: “Café des Amis

This place was awesome! 1st date or 30th anniversary the best food and service I have ever had. This restaurant is very true to its roots. On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 873. We will return, but next time with friends. I would recommend this place to friends and family.
