Re: “Streetcar: An honest debate gets drowned out by annoying peripheral issues

Johnson and the mayor are the best allies the opposition to the folly trolly could hope for. I encourage them to increase their public appearances and to freely state their closely held personal opinions.

Re: “Ten great burgers under $10, no Winstead's and no Town Topic

You want to know another place you can get a good burger? Bilski's on Merriam Drive in Shawnee. It's a softball bar (not really ... it's a neighborhood sports bar that just happens to have a lot of softballs on the walls ... but who doesn't like a softball bar?!).

Re: “Bishop Robert Finn, Catholic Diocese ordered to pay $1.1 million for not reporting child sexual abuse

Finn defenders on this comment board are completely misstating the facts and really need to stop embarrassing themselves.

Finn effectively has admitted that he failed to take the appropriate action in 2010 when Ratigan was sent for psychiatric evaluation rather than reported to the authorities after the photographs were found on Ratigan's computer. Finn further admitted that he failed to read letters sent to him from the principal of St. Patrick's, which set forth Ratigan's behavior in fine detail. Finally, the Graves investigation found that "that Diocesan leaders failed to follow their own policies and procedures for responding to reports." Don't pretend that Finn was just following advice of others and did all that he could.

These were not just "creepy pictures." There were photographs of the naked genitals of little girls. A child certainly was molested. Photographing naked children is child molestation. That's why Sean Ratigan is serving 50 years in prison.

Jason Isbell is going to be with Willie and Alison Krauss. Saw him in St Louis earlier this year and he put on a wonderful show.

Kitty's Cafe on 31st Street is a glaring omission to this list.

Pigwich has a damn fine double cheeseburger.

Hi-Boy is THE quintessential drive-in burger. And the onion rings.....

Westport Flea Market has a good burger, but I wouldn't call it the best one in town.

My favorite burger is the bison burger from McCoy's/The Foundry. Mmmmm....

Re: “Bishop Robert Finn, Catholic Diocese ordered to pay $1.1 million for not reporting child sexual abuse

This all started when some flunky found a picture of a girl in Ratigan's room. This employee brought it to Finn. FINN IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED THE POLICE. HE went IN PERSON to the police station WITH THE PHOTO. He was following every law, both Church and State, that he knew to obey. THE POLICE TOLD FINN they could do nothing as that photo did not "qualify" as actual pornography under the law. Ratigan was then removed to a remote location. The rest is lies and BS. A CHILD WAS NOT EVEN MOLESTED! This is all about laws for reporting, which Finn followed. It's a job to destroy the Catholic church. Some bishops are guilty, the old garde. Finn is not like that.

Re: “Bishop Robert Finn, Catholic Diocese ordered to pay $1.1 million for not reporting child sexual abuse

All of you who continue to preach holier than thou bullshit about this POS are disillusioned. Finn protected Ratigan. He is just as guilty. It doesn't matter how much good he's done. He failed the diocese and it's followers. It's not a question of his past but of his leadership. The diocese deserves better and I am sure there is better out there.

These girls got some serious skillz. I have met all three of them, they are like chicks you see and hang out every weekend. I see a big future ahead of them and they will become stars, but will always keep grounded. Keep rocking girls...

Re: “Bishop Robert Finn, Catholic Diocese ordered to pay $1.1 million for not reporting child sexual abuse

Bishop Finn does not deserve the treatment he is being dealt. He did not even see the pictures. As I recall, he was made aware that there were creepy pictures of girls, but was told the depictions were not sexual in nature and did not depict actual abuse, and he consulted with a lawyer and contacted a law enforcement officer who advised him that this was not a "mandatory reporting" situation. Bishop Finn at worst was someone who believed bad advice--not someone who wanted the creepy photo priest to keep perpetrating misdeeds unhindered, indeed he began further investigation and removed the priest from contact with children. When the priest violated restrictions, Bishop Finn called the cops on him. The smear campaign against him has been unbelievable, more of a persecution than anything justice oriented. Bishop Finn isn't liked in some quarters because he believes and clearly teaches the Catholic Faith.

Re: “Bishop Robert Finn, Catholic Diocese ordered to pay $1.1 million for not reporting child sexual abuse

None of you who criticize the good bishop know what kind of man or what a good and holy Catholic he is. Bishop Finn is manly bearing the penalty for another in the diocesan office who is the actual person who failed to report the seriousness of this situation. If anyone reading this actually wants to see God's justice done here, then more prayer, fasting and pennance needs to happen and no slander or calumny. May God make all of you happy in this life and in the next.

Re: “Sam Brownback's economic policies stimulate Kansas economy by negative $338 million in one year

The government should have a stimulus event in Topeka. "Throw a water balloon at government officials for $1". Heck I'd "invest" $20 in Kansas. Think of the capital they would raise, and I am sure it would boost tourism.
