Paul Goldman book signing
When we asked Paul Goldman if our city was ripe with subject matter for his poetry, he answered: "KC is seen by many around the country as the heart of the dove, a place teeming with spiritual energy. This could explain the diverse groups of people exploring personal and planetary awakening." All right, then. Drawing inspiration from sages and mystics such as Jalal ad-Din Rumi, Hafez and Tukaram, Goldman has written a collection of ecstatic poems called Journey Into Oneness. It's available for purchase at the Barnes & Noble on the Plaza (420 West 47th Street, 816-753-1313), where Goldman is set for his book signing at 7 p.m. You might recognize Goldman as the former proprietor of Westport's Stone Spirit Lodge. That retail space is gone, but the good vibes still flow on the page. For more information, see stonespiritlodge.com.

Mamma Mia!
A bride-to-be wants to know which of her mother's three former lovers is her dad so invites them all to her wedding. Sounds like your standard Maury Show, but it's the plot for Mamma Mia! The smash musical, featuring songs by Sweden's Abba, comes to the Lied Center (1600 Stewart Drive, Lawrence, 785-864-2787). The titular mamma has retired on an exotic Greek island after her party-girl days as the leader of disco sensation Donna and the Dynamos. Her life turns upside-down when her former paramours arrive. The Lied's one-night-only production starts at 7:30. Tickets are $21-$24 for youths and students and $42-$48 for adults. Buy them online at lied.ku.edu or by calling the box office. $21-$48

Trampled Under Foot
The familial blues trio -- recently nominated for three 2012 Blues Music Awards, including one for Band of the Year -- draws a reliable, fun-loving crowd to its weeknight performances at B.B.'s. Sometimes the best cure for the lovesick blues is, you know, more blues. Or beer. Or ribs. Whatever works, really. cover at door
