Have they released any plans for new traffic patterns? I can't imagine they'll leave both the Johnson Drive and Shawnee Mission Parkway exits as-is.
You commenters do realize that this plan keeps most of the infrastructure the same and consolidates everything into one terminal, right? You will still have easy highway access. The gates will be closer together. Your parking will still be right next to the terminal. There will no longer be two ghost terminals (like A&C are now) and one shitshow with insufficient parking (B). And god forbid people be able to change planes without exiting/reentering security (granted, this is less prevalent now that they've consolidated more gates at each security checkpoint).
KCI is convenient for Kansas Citians, as long as they're not flying at a peak hour on Southwest or Delta. For everyone else, especially those visiting our city, it's lousy.
These are the same thoughts I had about the show. It was great spectacle & energy that effectively sold the big dumb silly music. Die Antwoord is an entertaining, brilliantly executed gimmick that is fun for about an hour. It's no coincidence that they fit their entire set (including two 1-song encores) into that time frame.
The strip mall is coming down. IKEAs are typically two stories with a footprint of around 200,000 square feet, plus a parking structure that partially surrounds it. For perspective, a full-sized Walmart Supercenter is about 200,000 square feet.
My guess is that the pool and possibly some of the municipal facilities will be gone.
Well, you can get a "KC Strip" within a 60-mile radius of here, but everywhere else it's known as a New York Strip.
You can indeed get a great steak at the places you mentioned (when they're not doing a Wal-Mart Steakover, that is) and I would add the Majestic to the list.
I guess I just don't go to steakhouses much any more. I used to--in my early-to-mid-20s, a steak dinner was my choice for birthdays and special occasions. The turning point is probably when I learned to grill, which led to me seek out things I couldn't make at home when enjoying special meals.
The problem with LC's is consistency. I've been there 3 times. One meal was outstanding. The other two were downright bad, including one where I was served cold meat. Some of my friends have had similar experiences.
Conversely, I've never had anything less than a great meal at Oklahoma Joe's. Time after time, even with the huge volume they do, they have excellent food.
That sets them (and Jack Stack) apart - BBQ is finicky by nature, yet they always manage to get it right. So many places around town are a crapshoot, and for some reason people find that charming.
Re: “What pizza places should Fat City be visiting?”
I'd encourage you to try a slice or two of sausage pizza at KCK's Italian Delight at 82nd and State. It's superior to the one in Mission, which has a similar menu but is run by different people.
