I stopped by there on Saturday for a late lunch. Yes, the hand written menus were a little awkward, but the carnitas burrito I had was not. Big chunks of tasty pork, in what tasted like a homemade tortilla, covered in melted cheese. Not bad at all. I'll swing back by in a week or two to check on their progress.
Well, don't keep us in suspense! What culinary destination are we missing?
... Oh. Oklahoma Joe's. I get it. The nicer, suburban version of a Wyandotte original.
I don't think it's what you'd call a specialty, but mine is the wild mushroom curry with tofu at Lulu's. My wife teases me because I'm usually not a big tofu guy, but I order it about 75% of the time. There's something about the tofu's texture and the flavor of the mushrooms and curry that I love.
I love seeing local businesses be honest about Westport but still have some vision. It's my favorite "entertainment district" in the city. Good work, WC&B; let's see what other restaurantuers have to offer.
Say what you want about the rest of the Star, but despite Whitlock's shenanigans, the sports department has had some pretty amazing columnists in the last decade. Good for Poz on moving on up to SI.
We went Westport Cafe on Friday night and the place was packed. They had a nice deal where you could get their wine pairings for the first two courses for an additional $15 on top of the $30. The only downside was they were out of the skatefish by 7:30. It's the first night of restaurant week and you're out of one of the menu items? They subbed in rainbow trout, which my wife enjoyed. Otherwise, it was a very good meal and I'd reccomend you get to Westport to check it out.
Le Fou Frog and Lidia's are both locked and loaded on Opentable for later this week...
Re: “Now Open: Burrito Joe's on 39th Street”
Ha, you must have been sitting right behind me, since I heard the same conversation.
