Sam Adams Octoberfest
This is such a ludicrous issue. Cathy Jolly, Sam Brownback, the Funk, Ed Eilert, etc. should have as little to no say in what I eat than Fidel Castro. What someone eats is just not anyone else's business and it's a shame that people think it is. If you're fat and unhealthy, you probably shouldn't eat fast food. If you're poor and on the brink of malnutrition a couple of $1 hamburgers is a pretty good choice.
Also what is fast food? Is it just the boogeymen of Burger King and McDonald's? Are they really worse for you than Houlihan's, Cheddars or Applebees? Are they worse for you than The Rieger, R Bar or Julian?
If you, even for a second, consider it's a good idea that your local government should stop you from eating food with a certain caloric content, in 10 years you'll be rolling over when the government decides you can only eat salad for lunch.
Be responsible for yourself but protect others from government intrusion into their lives if they make different choices than you.
Those of us who go to Wichita regularly might appreciate posts like this. I do. I've been waiting for the Nu-Way post that must not ever be coming.
I lived in Wichita for 25 years and never stepped foot in The Old Mill Tasty Shop for reasons unclear to me. I'll probably never go because I'm just not down there enough.
I have no evidence that everyone gets the exemption. I do have evidence that out of state corporations get the exemption. To me, that seems like a problem. To the city council it probably seems like a payday.
No Realist, I'm just calling them out on it and not accepting compromise.
Faith, QT shouldn't have gotten the exemption either. If you make a law, you shouldn't go around saying that this company can break it or this company can. That puts the power in the hands of the government. If you believe that it should be illegal to sell liquor near a residential area it should be illegal for Trader Joe's to sell liquor as well as Joe Schmo Liquor store.
Re: “Should restaurants charge a baby fee?”
Chimpo, it's pretty pointless to argue with Faith about these things as she has commented before that she is offended by children laughing in a restaurant. If you're against hearing children laughing, you're a pretty self involved ridiculous human being.
As for Christene, it's pretty obvious she is childless because only the childless complain about Waldo Pizza being a kid friendly place (and how fucking dare they choose to cater to families). For you to think that someone is overeating seems odd to me, but to Christene's point, maybe restaurants should have a surcharge for those with less of an appetite or cooking skills and add a couple of bucks to the ticket if you don't get a full 4 course meal.
This was a rather silly little post to get all huffy about anyway. A buffet is different than a regular restaurant where you pay for an entree. What you do with an entree after you order it is your business, but a buffet implies that you're going to go back for more food, or in Christene's case 5 or 6 trips, it makes sense to charge per person.
Just to be clear though, I fully respect any restaurant that don't offer kids meals or don't cater to kids. It's completely up to the restauranteur what kind of experience they want their diners to have.
