1. Chappells Sport's Bar & Museum in Northtown
2. The Dish in Liberty
3. Jumping Catfish NOTR finally folded.
Don't like dogging on the locals but y'all are so 80's ! I would love to see a rock star chef take over The Savoy's kitchen & a new developer finish The Savoy Hotel's long 20 year old 'renovation'. That building deserves the love & respect.

All this reminds me of a semi-famous food servant saying, "Bitter! Table for ONE, please."
Would you avoid dining at CiCi's knowing it was the local elementary's fundraiser night & it's swarming with kids? For that matter, would you eat more all you can eat because chances are that you will see more BMI challenged people at a place like CiCi's?
Do you avoid going to G & PG rated movies knowing that the usual movies rules may or may not apply?
For that matter did you know that this week is back to school week and that many of your wee diners were there for one last final outing?
Two words: NO BOOTHs for children! As a degreed Culinarian with BOH & FOH experience and as a parent, I repeat - NO BOOTHS! It's just way too much real estate for the kiddo's to handle! Demand to be seated at a table unless you are at Fritz's which has very HARD booths that do not double as bounce houses.
FOH Servers & Staff:
1.If you are a child hater please tip out your host extra to NOT seat kids in your section.
2. Drop the kiddos ticket before the adults order & serve the kiddos first. Offer crackers & water with a lid if the parents are not packing their own. Remove and/or relocate the sugar caddy plus S/P shakers if necessary.
3. Be nice.
Parents:
1. Do not abdicate your parental responsibility to the host, server, etc. This is not free childcare and/or maid service for that matter. Do you let your children eat like pigs at home? Would you let your child empty & pour sugar packets on your dining room table?
2. Assume that your server has no childcare experience & have the server drop the kid's order first. Pack sippy cups & cherrios for the wee ones.
3. Tip 20% & follow the ground rules listed above.
Everyone: Check out dim sum at BoLings on the weekend and see whole families with children eating in peace. Train you kids to buffet at places like CiCi's.
Ixtapa is located in Kansas City, North, not in North Kansas City a.k.a Northtown, which is a separate municipality from Kansas City, MO, and it's sprawling city limits annexed by greedy KCMO back in the 60's.
As a hungry Northtowner, I would love to have Ixtapa in North Kansas City. Alas, we are stuck with (I give them 6 months), El Chubracabra. We tried them out last weekend, and I'm thinking of going back and giving them an opening gift: Anthony Bordain's Kitchen Confidential with the part about amateurs opening restaurants completely highlighted.
Re: “Forget Trader Joe's, let's hear it for Aldi!”
Lol, if you think Aldi's is stinky then stay away from Chinatown Market and the potato bins at Costco & Sams.
