Re: “'Swanky, hip boutique bakery' opens in Leavenworth

The Peacock Cafe's variation on hummingbird cake sounds delicious.  Traditionally hummingbird cake incorporates bananas, pineapple and pecans, topped with cream cheese frosting but no coconut.

Re: “Dunkin' Donuts to open five new restaurants in North Kansas City

I read this headline and thought it odd that a town as small as North Kansas City would get 5 locations of Dunkin' Donuts. Reading on, it appears what they actually mean is Kansas City North and North of the River. Why is it so hard to get this straight?

Re: “SodaVie's cucumber soda is a savory refreshment

I have used several flavors of Soda Vie in baking cupcakes. It makes a very flavorful, fluffy cake and is also delicious in frosting!

Re: “Gluten-free dining is more than just a trend

It is not a dedicated gluten-free bakery, however I have had no problems and am highly-sensitive.

Re: “Gluten-free dining is more than just a trend

I've been told by a Red Robin manager that it is an anti-caking agent in the seasoning blend. It is clearly stated on their menu to ask for the seasoning blend to be left off. I only discovered this after having a reaction to their fries. (I eat at Red Robin frequently and find them to be very conscientious, this was my fault for not reading their menu clearly.)

Re: “Gluten-free dining is more than just a trend

Another quick comment: KCPC mentioned that Red Robin cooks their fries in a dedicated fryer, which they do. However you must request that they do not season the fries as their seasoning blend does contain an anti-caking agent that is not gluten-free.

Re: “Gluten-free dining is more than just a trend

I'd like to add another to the great list from KCPC. I've tried more than a few gluten-free sweets across the country and one of the best I have ever had came from Le Petit Rouge, the delightful bakery counter inside The Reading Reptile in Brookside. Delicious almond cake! And the meringues...divine.
