Re: “Halfway Home Pet Adoptions loses animal-shelter contract with Kansas City amid claims of animal abuse

Lets hope you have lit the fire... Sad that it would take such drastic measures to get things to change

Right?? RescueMo will definately not be getting a Christmas card from me. All jokes aside though, I truly hope that people are reading these comments and following the threads behind them. So much of what is being said to defend this man is SO untrue. The people posting and fighting to get better conditions have been there and have put up with enough bullshit. It is time for things to get better. YES, there are staff that work there that do care and that are relentlessly trying to get the animals out of there. But, there are staff that DONT care. They all know who they are. And sadly, the staff that does care and is standing behind Doc and denial of cruelty, truly know that the volunteers that are standing up and fighting are right. This is going on. This is not made up. This is nothing but a fight for change. A fight for better conditions. That is a very fair fight I believe. RescueMo keep posting. It will keep giving me an oppourtunity to counter post the things that you believe to be true. You obviously are not aware of the true operations of HHPA. Thats okay. I hope that informing you as well.

You are actually lucky that they told you to go to another vet. Usually they wouldnt pass up a paying client for anything! The job that was done at your vet I can PROMISE was a much better job than what you would have received there. Your one of the lucky few... better to have to go to your vet and get the job done than to have it half assed done just to cause more problems for you and the dog. They don't have all the tools that they need there to do some of the medical treatments that they take on. This is not an opinion

Re: “Halfway Home Pet Adoptions loses animal-shelter contract with Kansas City amid claims of animal abuse

Definately anger is placed towards the ignorant and irresponsible pet owners that dont spay and neuter their pets. And it is heart breaking to see dogs come in with their owners and the humans that they love and trust, not knowing that they are dropping them off because they chew on their furniture because they have anxiety. The sadness will never be forgotten. Watching the animals watch their humans just walk out the door. Some days at that shelter it was easy to give on hope on our human race. Clean kennels is nicer to see than dirty ones. Of course, but if the Dr. is claiming to be taking care of the extra needs of these patients and isnt, we are being lied to. It's easy to paint a pretty picture. It means nothing if the love and care isnt there to back it up. He says a lot of things. A lot of people believe a lot of false hopes. He puts on a good show. That's for sure...

Re: “Halfway Home Pet Adoptions loses animal-shelter contract with Kansas City amid claims of animal abuse

To phrase it simply Dr. Steckelberg is very "sometimey." I stated on a prior post, one day I would walk into work and be shocked and excited even at the care he would give animals either in the shelter or coming into the clinic. The very next day he would OPT to not treat an animal properly in the animal treatment room. A room he and I had set up for animals with special and or extra medical needs. The care was never consistent. The alligations are harsh. Very hard to believe. Disgusting even... but they are true. The people putting out these reports are not doing it out of spite, boredom, anger... simply out of love for these animals. They have seen enough and they are fed up. I am proud of everyone who has stated their opinion and their own personal experiences. This is not an easy thing to do. He has a very sly way of manipulating people and situations into his favor. I have no doubt he treated your animal(s) kindly and with care. You are just lucky that you did not come into that shelter and have to deal with the absent side of Dr. Steckelberg. It is nice to hear your good experiences. Please pay attention to the statements. I first handedly can say I saw things that will haunt me for the rest of my life. I know, obviously I am not alone.

Morally, Ethically, Physically, Financially..... whatever the case may be, this project is too big for Dr. Steckelberg. He needs to step down and let someone else take over.
