So, a Chick-fil-A is opening here in Mission, and soon we have to endure Toby Keith's monstrosity of a bar and a Wal-Mart. Mission is supporting three businesses that line the pockets of right-wing assholes. These places would be a much better fit in Village West, where the rednecks already frequent.
IKEA is going to Merriam.
As a beer lover I think this is great, as long as the price is right.
Can't wait!
Nice roundup, thanks.
Countless coaches have tried and failed to find success in Manhattan? Three is too many for you? And the last of the three is Jim Wooldridge, not Bob Huggins. Huggins resurrected the program. He had the most wins (23) of any first-year men's basketball coach in K-State history, and the most wins by the program in nearly 20 years, all while getting K-State to the postseason for the first time in almost a decade. Contrast his .657 record to the combined .504 record of the previous three coaches. I'd say he found success in Manhattan.
Also, many readers may not realize that prior to our slump in the 1990s, K-State had a terrific basketball team -- every bit as good as KU's -- starting with Jack Gardner's second coaching stint in 1946.
Re: “Can someone explain the magic of Taco Via?”
I grew up on Taco Via, and still love it. The sauce is the (not so) secret: it's spicy and peppery and I can drink it straight. But the tacos, nachos and tostadas are good even without sauce. The taco meat is seasoned nicely, the tostadas are a messy treat, and the crispy flat nachos, covered with melted cheese, sauce and diced jalepenos, are to die for. That is, when everything comes out hot. The best time for that is probably the lunch hour. But even when it comes out lukewarm, a generous slathering of that delicious sauce makes it very tasty anyway. Bad Taco Via is better than good Taco Bell any day.
I haven't heard anyone mention the old Shawnee (Quivira Plaza) location yet, which was where I got hooked on Taco Via 30+ years ago. Now the only worthwhile Taco Via is the 95th and Antioch location. The others shove Christianity in your face with Ten Commandments placemats, religious music, etc.
Pro tip: Amigos in Kansas City, KS has some Taco Via-like items on their menu, if you're ever in the area.
