Re: “Bishop Robert Finn, Catholic Diocese ordered to pay $1.1 million for not reporting child sexual abuse

Thankfully because of the determination of these very courageous victims to keep kids safe within this archaic secret system, there is now another way to hold bishops accountable for not keeping their promises of "Zero Tolerance" on child sex abuse by their clerics.
They are to commended for not giving up...
Sadly the sex abuse and cover up within the church hierarchy throughout the world is still going on to this day. Cardinals and bishops are still not removing accused predator clergy, and they are still not reporting to law enforcement. Their so called "zero tolerance" policy is not being followed by the bishops who created it. They don't have to, because there is no punishment to force the bishops to change their ways of protecting their power and the institution rather than protecting innocent children. This is why we need outside law enforcement and better legislation to hold these men accountable.

Why is Finn still a bishop running the KC diocese?
Until many of these bishops are demoted, disciplined, and held accountable for their crimes of enabling child predators and spending more time and money protecting themselves, nothing has changed. It is still business as usual.
Sex abuse thrives in secrecy and secret systems that allow it to continue to this day.
Silence is not an option anymore, it only hurts, and by speaking up there is a chance for healing, exposing the truth, and therefore protecting others

Re: “Shawn Ratigan, who doesn't like prison much, gets to spend 50 years there

Thankfully Shawn Ratigan will stay behind bars and away from kids for a very long time. He and the KC-St Joe diocese officials have caused enough harm to so many kids and their families. We hope that they can start to heal.

And yet, Bishop Finn who enabled Ratigan to sexually abuse more kids, is free and still running the diocese. There is something terribly wrong with this picture.
Sex abuse thrives in secrecy and secret systems that allow it to continue to this day. If anyone has knowledge or has been harmed by anyone within this diocese. please contact law enforcement, not the church officials, They are not the proper officials to be investigating child sex crimes.
Keep in mind your silence only hurts, and by speaking up there is a chance for healing, exposing the truth, and therefore protecting others.

Re: “Bishop Robert Finn convicted of shielding priest who pleaded guilty to child-porn charges

Finally there is a bit of justice for clergy abuse victims, and finally there is a bit of hope for protecting kids from being sexually abused.

The KC judge found Bishop Finn guilty of concealing and not reporting sex crimes against innocent little girls. There are many other bishops who could have sat in that court room and been found guilty also. This is a beginning of getting this horrific abuse stopped. We hope the families of Fr Ratigan's victims can feel a sense of relief, even though Finn only got a sentence of probation. We hope they can sleep a bit easier tonight.

We have come this far in protecting kids because brave victims of clergy sex abuse are speaking up and contacting police. Like Finn has now learned the hard way, it is not the church officials who should be deciding or investigating child sex crimes, that is the job for law enforcement.

Thank you to the judge for this historic guilty verdict. This is just a start for some hope for the safety of our children and the future.

Re: “Shawn Ratigan, priest accused of producing child pornography, pleads guilty

Thankfully for the innocent children and their families, this predator priest will most likely be kept far away from kids for the rest of his life.
Hopefully any others, who may have knowledge or may have been harmed by Shawn Ratigan, will have the courage to speak up and report it to police.

When victims and whistleblowers stay silent, nothing changes. But when they find the courage to take action, there's at least a chance for prevention, healing and justice especially when they seek independent sources of support and avoid contacting Catholic officials.

Re: “The Kansas City Cardiogram: Bishop Finn wants a pass, an 81-year-old woman's Chihuahua is dognapped and more

Bishop Finn is in charge and responsible for every Catholic group, org, school, employee, priest, office worker, etc. in his territory. He is the boss and he makes the final decisions.

Isn't it interesting that in KC-St Joe diocese the bishop is blaming the vicar general, yet in Philly Archdiocese the vicar general is blaming the bishop?

ALL who covered up sex crimes against innocent kids need to be held accountable, and Bishop Finn needs to be held accountable for his crimes by the law of the land.

Hopefully anyone who may have knowledge, been sexually harassed, or harmed in any way, will have the courage to speak up and report it to police, not church officials.
