It sounds like the reviewer didn't stick around to catch the second half of Fuck Buttons' set. Yeah, the first few songs were lengthy drones that hurt the ears both literally and figuratively, but as the set progressed so too did their songs, and by the end they were hitting us with some really good dancable songs. Imagine The Field, but if they liked distortion and screaming into Hasbro microphones. Anyway, they weren't nearly as bad as advertised...eventually.
Caribou were very good too, but the songs barely resembled their album counterparts. In concert, they bring the rock. This can be good if you like Sonic Youth-esque feedback laden outros or stoner-rific, spaced out guitar jams, but it can be a drag if you actually paid money to hear Dan's vocals which were completely lost in the mix of drums and guitars. Thankfully Caribou has plenty of instrumental tracks.
I also thought it was an excellent show, but then again I'm way past the point of "casual fan." (No offense to you Sgt@arms, but I just don't see the point in paying $30 for any band if I'm only a casual fan) I'm also a writer for Range Life Music, and Femme Fatale wasn't kidding when she said we got some fantastic video of "Blue Line Swinger." Wow. Also, I found a blog with a full bootleg of their Freewheeling stop in Seattle, with a fucking incredible set that includes such classics like "Big Day Coming," "We're an American Band," "Pablo and Andrea," and, strangely enough, "False Alarm." Seriously awesome. Check it:

Re: “Concert Review: Sigur Ros”
Was the show beautiful? Yes. Were the songs they played performed magnificantly? Yes. Is Jonsi the best live vocalist in rock music. Probably. But the show still left me a little sour. Why? It was about 30 minutes shorter than every other Sigur Ros show I've attended (this was my 4th), the set was incredibly mellow, even for a Sigur Ros show (no Gli, Saegl, Hafsaka the song where the bass player uses a drumstick), or Untitled 8??!!), and the set was constructed to appeal to fans of an album that isn't technically even released yet. I would almost have preferred to pay $45 like the last time they came to KC if it meant I would get a more rockin' show and a longer set.
