ok, it is saturday may 16th. i'll probably start playing music around let's say 10am for soundcheck.
feel free to stop by! i'm always down with a 12 hour set but it's a lot more entertaining to me to hear other people's selections - everyone invited!
i was up there a few weeks ago pre-grand opening, happened to be driving down north oak trafficway and i can't pass up a record store.
had a great conversation with gary about the state of the business - and he helped me find a copy of REM's chronic town ep in near-mint condition for $4.
definitely wish him success . . .
indeed that was on carson daly . . . that performance made me go back and re-evaluate my opinion of agaetis byrjun - i think it was for something off of takk, but it was mesmerizing to say the least . . .
it was great to see this show packed with a respectful, knowledgeable audience. i had no problem spending $28/ticket for this, which only furthers the argument that $25+ for has-been 90's bands (ahem*better than ezra/rusted root/crossroads lineup) is an exploitative joke.
i hope this trend continues - i'd like to see more of the bands that generally book lawrence on the guaranteed college draw or skip here entirely look to kansas city, and it's nights like last night that are going to continue to make that a reality.
great pics as well, btw.
holy crap that's THE justin warfield from bomb the bass' bug powder dust/brain dead and the solo My Field Trip to Planet 9 . . . wtf!
it's unfortunate they couldn't do a two-fer and mention baby birds don't drink milk, who were on tour with spidermums, and in fact sharing members due to the arrest.
any report on how the last town chorus were? i jumped when i saw they were opening, but saw the $18/ticket cover charge and just couldn't bring myself to pay that.
Re: “Dispatch from Shawnee: Record Store Day”
fun fact - needmore discs is named after robert pollard's music publishing company, needmore songs, since the owners/staff are huge guided by voices fans - more than enough reason for me to keep coming back there.
