I've been rooting for Lulu's since it opened on Mass St., and I have seen some recent improvements. Lulu's is amazing when it's spot-on. However, in 4 or 5 visits to the new spot, I have gotten dishes that had the wrong ingredients, were unseasoned, one that tasted like a mouthful of table salt, and two that I was later told weren't vegetarian, despite a seemingly knowledgeable server describing them both as vegan. I am very forgiving, but my last visit involved a double remake--attempts 1 and 2 were terrible, attempt 3 (insisted upon by the server after seeing me taste attempt 2) was still very disappointing. I really hate wasting food and asking for special anything, and I generally just don't have the energy for such ordeal when I am already famished. Help me (and the staff) figure out what's really in the dishes, focus on nailing it the first time, and I will be back. I love the new location, despite some uncomfortable seating; I love the staff; I love the creative liquor infusions; and I love the Happy Hour food and the recipes behind the full menu. I WANT to come back, but I need a little reassurance at this point.
and ... closed. So damn far away from the real city that I never made it there. No reason to go further than Waldo!
I support a public appeal to carry on with a music store at that location, but I wouldn't think folks would be appealing to FYE, part of http://www.twec.com/ to continue syphoning the KC market into their profit margins. Is there a possibility of stalling, then selling the location (as we saw with Wild Oats)?
It does sound like the article was written without regard for its interpretation by readers. Doesn't matter how Nikki truly feels; she could have figured that out from the copy. People who stay in their own segregated environments are often hypersensitive, though, and I'm guessing that those folks inflated the reaction. I've found that I can't speak to a lot of white people the way I do with everyone else. It seems ridiculous, but people get nervous or assume the worst when you point out ethnic, racial, regional, or socioeconomic differences because THEY don't feel comfortable talking about them. It sucks when you're comfortable with yourself and all the people you meet, but since some folks can't distinguish a colorblind class clown from a racist jerk, you do have to take THEIR insecurities and sensitivities into account, even when nothing derogatory is being said.
I don't know if Nikki is from Miami, but if so, she could very well have grown up with neither uptight hypersensitivity nor racism, both of which seem common in the Midwest.
"Sponsor area"? Is this the street in front of McCoy's? Is this an area for anonymous/surprise sponsors or just the worst name ever for a special Pitch stage? Thanks for all the info. Geez.
This is the old lineup. For some reason it doesn't mention that the updates are listed elsewhere one by one.
Wow, I have spent as much time trying to figure out where bands are playing as I intended to spend watching them. Awesome.
Re: “Could Chipotle be bringing bahn mi and noodle bowls to fast food?”
Sounds better than the Noodles & Co by my old office, but I'll probably still stick to the local family restaurants. Eggplant with basil over brown rice would certainly be great to stumble across when travelling through the food wastelands of middle America.
