Re: “Kansas Rep. Pete DeGraaf: Being impregnated during a rape is just like getting a flat tire

And what about the women who are trying to start a family with their significant other, what if they are raped and can't be sure of who the father is? How does planned parenthood help them? This is not an easy solution. I spent many years trying to start a family. I was also raped within that time period. If I had become pregnant at that time I would not know who the father was. And then I wonder how my significant other would have felt if after having the child we found out it wasn't his.

I am sorry for you knowing the father of your child was not by your choice and by an act of violence, there are just too many levels here to throw out a simple solution.

Unfortunately the paternity tests are best done after birth. To take the plan b solution means you may not have your rapists baby, but it also means you may unknowingly be ending the life of your partners child as well. Most other forms of birth control work in direct opposition to starting a family. Condoms require the attacker puts it on, which if he doesn't care isn't gonna happen. That leaves the female condom, does that mean we should walk around with a diaphram in all the time just in case we're raped? Pretty sure that's not safe.

Re: “Kansas Rep. Pete DeGraaf: Being impregnated during a rape is just like getting a flat tire

Have you been paying attention, he gave us all of his contact info. Besides that point is the fact he's not the one marginalizing woman. The politician, who I don't even want to express in any form, is not only saying that we woman should expect to be violated but that it doesn't matter if we are.  Saying that Mr. Rugg is a coward is foolish. He has reported the facts we need to know about this scum and he has given us nothing that we could not find for ourselves should we go to the pastor's political page. He does not  advocate violence, not because he's afraid of the backlash to him but because, and he's right, it won't do any good no matter how good it may feel. Unfortunately I doubt that the pastor will allow any account written by a victim to change his views, and any one who calls would have to be careful of their tone and phrasing because yelling at the man or even talking in a threatening manner would allow him to end the call on grounds of verbal abuse. We can not allow ourselves to be dragged down to his reprehensible level, nor to fall below it. We maust act within the law if he is to be dealt with.

Your right it's not god who caused it and saying that it occurred because the victims sinned is outrageous.

Siwahna2, at no point does he say it is what others believe. If it is implied it is implied so subtly it's extremely hard to find.

Excuse me? How does rape occurs because of the sins of the victim? I was Five years old the first time! What sins did I commit to warrant a rape? What evil god would not only support but cause such an act? No, you are completely wrong, the evil is solely that of the predator.

The only part teaching love and compassion is the part dealing with Jesus' teachings. if you read until his birth after his death the opposite is true. Even in the bible his followers immediately got his message wrong. It's such a shame.

Thank goodness you escaped them. It sounds as if you've turned your pain into strength. As if you've used it to help you grow. May you never experience such pain and horror again.  Sending you sisterly love. Continue to heal.

Re: “Kansas Rep. Pete DeGraaf: Being impregnated during a rape is just like getting a flat tire

I knew a man, he was not a good man, but he was in one way that mattered. He was a man who after learning of what I had gone through, would beat the crap out of any man who wound up in prison with him after learning that they had been convicted of rape. He would also do the same to any man abusing a woman within earshot.

Yes there are good men out there, and there are bad men who will stand up and protect women. No matter how strong a woman may be, men are generally stronger, and it never hurts to know at least one of them is on your side. David's Compassion is appreciated.
