It is not
“failure.” Finn knew precisely what he was doing: concealing, for months,
repeated, credible suspicions of inappropriate and illegal actions by his
priest from parishioners, police, prosecutors and the public. In situations
like this, well-educated Catholic bishops like to pretend they “just goofed”
when, in fact, they know exactly what they are doing. They know that even if
their cover ups are revealed, they will never suffer any penalty or consequence
for endangering kids.

Finn and
his top staff deliberately sat on possible evidence of child sex crimes
- from police, prosecutors, parishioners and the public - for five
months. There is simply no excuse for this reckless, callous and deceptive
misconduct.

Re: “The Rev. Robert Murphy, once accused of sexual improprieties, charged with handling sex-abuse complaints”
Sadly, there's nothing really baffling about this story. Once again, a
priest tries to sexually assault/exploit a vulnerable young person. Once again,
bishops ignore and conceal the allegation. Once again, a potentially dangerous
cleric is kept on the job among unsuspecting families. Sorry, that's not
baffling, that's business as usual in the KC Catholic hierarchy.
