Re: “Clay County Auditor William Norris' sad little world is crashing down

Study up on RSMo 115.405 and give us your translation of the legal jargon.  Was a crime committed when he signed his candidate statement?  A felony committed in 2010... that's not so retrospective.

Re: “Kansas Rep. Pete DeGraaf: Being impregnated during a rape is just like getting a flat tire

On a related topic... We all know that most rapes are not reported to the police, especially if the victim knows the rapist, because of the societal shame and blame further inflicted upon the victims.  This is why I firmly believe that the Plan B (morning after pill) should be as cheap and available to get as picking up a bottle of tylenol at the corner drug store.  Ever try to find Plan B?  Most pharmacies don't carry it, and the few that do also require the buyer to speak to the pharmacist and to sign for it!  At well over $60 in some areas, it may be entirely cost-prohibitive for some, especially a scared teenage girl.  It's available for cheaper at some Planned Parenthood centers, but if you're raped on a Friday evening, you need to wait until the clinic opens on Monday morning...pushing the 72 hour limit on when the drug should be taken.  It's called emergency contraception for a reason.  The religious right have also done everything possible to prevent Plan B from being available, likening it to a late-term abortion.  It's time that women used our majority power to take back our reproductive rights. Contraception should be available without prescription or other added costs, cheap and easy to obtain without hassle.  You want to lower the abortion rates, make it easy for women to decide when they want to get pregnant.

Re: “After a 180, a prime Westport spot becomes Beer Kitchen No. 1

We ate at the Beer Kitchen today after reading this review. Absolutely fabulous! The food was excellent and we enjoyed the beer selection. The service was pretty good and the staff were very friendly. Our only disappointment was with the music selection. Not a fan of hearing Journey, Heart and other 80s crap rock played over and over again. Other than that, we also loved the atmosphere and layout of the space.

Re: “Allegations of racism and mismanagement spark a power struggle at the Mutual Musicians Foundation

This is a well written piece and fairly objective given the fact that the MMF had literally been taken from the membership by the old board of directors. I don't think that the fact that the board ignored the by-laws and took over the MMF illegally was emphasized very well here. But, that's not "high drama" enough. Personal differences (drama) between the principles in this Saga aside, there was no membership because the members were summarily and purposely excluded over a period of time by attrition. I don't think that any of the new board members have anything against any of the old board members, they just wanted the membership to be a part of the organization and it was not under the old MMF board. Lisa Henry simply stated/wrote what many MMF members were thinking and signed her name to it, rather than remain politically correct. Betty Crow did what she had to in order to keep the MMF going in some desperate times for the organization, regardless if her methods were not above board - most people don't buy into painting Betty as a villain, just someone who wanted to sidestep procedure to reach what was in her mind a positive end for the organization. There are no sides to take in this issue. The MMF belongs to everyone. Period.
