Re: “Jacqueline Chanda, president of the Kansas City Art Institute, got a vote of 'no confidence' from the faculty yesterday

I'd like to add a positive thought here - When KCAI's Class of 2014 walks across the stage on Saturday to get their diplomas they will be the first class at the school to include TWO Windgate Fellowship winners. These fellowships are awarded annually to only 10 seniors nationwide. The program is overseen by the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design in North Carolina. No school can nominate more than two candidates. This year marked the third year out of the last four that a KCAI student has earned one of these $15,000 Fellowships. Congratulations to 2014 Windgate Fellows Shenequa Brooks and Melanie Sherman, and to all the graduating seniors! My wife, Cary Esser, has been teaching at KCAI since 1996 and it has been a pleasure to get to know hundreds of talented creative young people over the years. - Mo Dickens, Gallery Assistant, Belger Arts Center

Re: “January 2014's First Friday Hit List

Thanks for the coverage, however Ceramic Top 40 CONTINUES through January 25 in the Belger Crane Yard Studios gallery at 2011 Tracy Avenue. All the exhibits listed in the article above as closing at the Belger Arts Center on Saturday, Jan. 4, did in fact close. Sincerely, Mo Dickens, Gallery Assistant, Belger Arts Center

Re: “BEST ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

What a treat to open the "Best of" issue and see Jessica Brandl as Best Artist in Residence. There have been many good ones in Kansas City over the last year, whether visiting local museums or studio sites like Charlotte Street and Studios, Inc. Two other Red Star residents, Jo Kamm and Keira Norton, currently have work on display in the new Belger Crane Yard gallery at 2011 Tracy Avenue. Both exhibits are top notch. The Artists in Residence program is a real plus for Red Star and we love keeping so much talent in Kansas City! Thanks again for the recognition,

Re: “Christopher Leitch fired as director of Kansas City Museum

I have known Christopher for nearly two decades. He was very committed to the Kansas City Museum. I am sorry to hear that he will not be there when the renovations are complete. I know projects like that are time-consuming and stressful and it's a shame Christopher will not be there to enjoy the results of his labors. - Mo Dickens

Re: “Jessica Brandl gets a handle on Manifest Destiny and the Midwest

Thanks to the Pitch and especially writer Liz Cook for this article. We really enjoyed having Jessica as a resident artist and the exhibit has been hugely popular with visitors and collectors. The work will be on display through Saturday, June 29, on the third floor of the Belger Arts Center / Red Star Studios.

Re: “Steven Tyler was at the Tivoli the other night

When I feel like seeing a movie, I always check out what's playing at the Tivoli. Nice bunch of folks down there. - Mo
