Re: “Does the KCMO School District even know how often its teachers call in sick?

Mark you live in a fantasy world. Do you think they give a flying care about what their teachers need. We have filled out survey after survey over the years and nothing ever comes of it. People really have no idea what teachers really are going through in the KCMSD. I will be solving that problem as an English teacher, I have gathered a lot of research over the years and the truth must be told. It has to for the students of the district to get the education they deserve.

Matt Pearce why dont you report on something that is the real cause of the districts failure. For instance Teach for America people(who are not real teachers), 7th and 8th graders being placed in high schools which is totally inappropriate. Teacher having their planning time cut in half but their load increased. A state that just came in and did and audit and gives the district a slap on the wrist. I read all 32 pages(some people need to go to jail). Those of us who have been with the district and are still with district know that illegal transactions take place all the time, why do you think we have to pay for our own classroom supplies year after year. Many excellent teachers have lost their jobs while subs and untrained people try to teach these children. The only reason why these teachers were let go is for the all mighty dollar. The Board doesn't care about these kids and their education you know that by looking at the audit. It is plain as the nose on your face. That is the facts, now use them.

As a former teacher of the KCMSD school district I think not only do the amount of sick days have to do with the stress these teachers are under but also the quality of air in the buildings. I read the audit about how much they over paid(probably some people pocketed a lot of that money) to remove asbestos from one building, I doubt anything was done. Many of the building are old and moldly. I felt sick during my days at NEHS. I expected I would have a headache by the end of the day. People who are not teaching in the KCMDS have no idea what stress is. Don't judge until you have walked a mile in someone elses shoes. Seven years was all I could take and it wasn't the kids. It was the disorganization of administrators not doing their job and people down town not holding up their end of the job too.
