Nice! Great article, and I love that you're sharing your good experiences with veganism without the slightest hint of proselytizing.
I'm all about flexibility in diet - my blog is called Almost Vegan (almostveganchef.com) and my cookbook is called Practically Raw (http://amzn.to/tHafnH). I'm happier and healthier being 95% vegan than I would be if I were a zealous, stressed-out, whiny vegan-who-didn't-deep-down-want-to-be-100%-vegan.
Yes, we can put it to rest! KC is astounding vegan-friendly, much to many people's surprise. I blogged about this recently, when that NY Times guy claimed it was impossible to find a veg meal in this town: http://almostveganchef.com/2012/01/11/a-re… I'm proud of the KC veg food scene!
I responded to and refuted Sulzberger's article in a blog article of my own this week: http://almostveganchef.com/2012/01/11/a-re… His was a poor excuse for "journalism" and an unfair portrayal of KC's thriving veg scene.
Well said! I sort-of eviscerated the guy on my blog this week too: http://almostveganchef.com/2012/01/11/a-re… His article just never should've been published, IMHO.
Re: “The vegan with the bacon tattoo: confessions of a temporary vegan”
Sorry, not ashamed at all - I'm happier and healthier than ever.
And that's why I call myself "Almost Vegan" - because I'm not 100%.
I'd rather 50% of the world be 50% vegan than 1% of the world be 100% vegan. Think of how many more animals it would save if everyone realized it's ok to be "mostly" or "almost" vegan without making a 100% lifetime commitment!
