Re: “SXSW Friday and Saturday: The War on Drugs; John Velghe; a gigantic stage designed to look like a Doritos vending machine; just wanting to come home

RE: "Sounds like the suits from California finally sucked all the blood out of the festival and now SXSW is 100% parasite. It's a shame really. I used to hold SXSW in the same "bucket list" esteem as I do Bonnaroo." ---- It's not. There were literally hundreds of stages with hundreds of bands performing from all over the world. And 95% of them were free to get in to. there are numerous festivals and showcases going on all around Austin during SXSW. The giant Doritos stage does not sum up the SXSW experience, as it was one stage out of hundreds. There are corporate sponsors at all festivals- just look at the partners page on their websites. That's the way it is.

Sounds like you had kind of a miserable time :-(. Bummer. Just wanted to mention that the Midcoast Takeover showcase had a line around the corner both nights and was steadily attended throughout the daytime sets. The organizers did a fantastic job and made our KC bands look and sound really great.
