Re: “The tech issue:
Google's Big Gig is still a guessing game - one with room for many winners

Speaking as someone who may never live in KC, I am delighted that Google chose a mid-western, "normal" location for their Gigabit Fiber living laboratory. I happen to live within 8 miles of the intergalactic GooglePlex but will never have home access to a Google-constructed fiber (or wireless) plant.

I realize that the media must continue to write the "Google bites Man" features to drive readership but I really do believe that Google invested in this community-wide Gig Fiber deployment to understand (and then monetize) what can be done when a community has virtually unlimited Internet access (excepting South Korea.) I believe Google has/is approaching this service deployment with more wonders than answers. Their course being charted by their project's findings and failures rather than a fixed/firm 5 year deployment.
So, when the media inevitably opines about the radio silence and unknowns of Google, I recommend you consider the rare engagement KC has established with one of the most innovative and (yes) secretive companies in the world.
