Did anyone else live in this area or just me? The police wouldn't come when called. People moved out. Gangs moved in. And those empty houses on the east side, go to the court house and see who owns them. I will bet the majority are HUD owned.
At this point there is no viable argument against it but it was a shame that an area of modestly priced houses wasn't given more help and protection from the city in the first place.
Don't know if my prior comment posted. I want to know: How many of those empty spaces were HUD houses? If it's anything like Detroit or Cleveland, a lot. HUD does not have to follow city ordinances and the city won't push the issue. It becomes HUD-induced blight. Eventually the property goes to the city's land bank (no one will buy at any price) and then to developers. It's just another name for a land grab.
Re: “The KCPD's East Campus development rolls ahead – over a few angry holdouts”
HUD houses when they are put up for sale go to the large investors first, then to the smaller investors and then are opened to the public. Guess which category slumlords belong.
