Re: “New Woodsweather Cafe will open next month in the Northland”
I was a frequent diner of Woodsweather Cafe (owned by the two John Cuezzes---uncle and nephew) in the West Bottoms. When they first opened, the restaurant was being run by both Johns. My understanding is that Uncle John primarily ran the kitchen, Nephew John primarily managed the business. Back in those days, they were just serving breakfast and lunch. They got their liquor license and extended the hours. Uncle John worked the breakfast and lunch. Nephew John worked the afternoons and evenings. At that time, Uncle John was the primary person who faced the customers and, from what I understand, was occasionally gruff----perhaps a result of stress or just plain old-fashioned occasional crankiness. Whatever the reason, he eventually bowed out. Nephew John became the primary managing partner of Woodsweather. I've never seen a more gracious host. I can't tell you how welcome I felt each and every time I walked into Woodsweather. The mood was always so pleasant that many diners at different tables would strike up a conversation with each other, as though they were long time friends. I often saw Nephew John walk around the dining room, pull up a chair and visit until the food came out. There was always a friendly handshake, a chuckle and a familiar feel to every visit. That was the charm of Woodsweather Cafe. For those of you scratching your heads wondering which John you met, consider the following: Uncle John is the older of the two Johns. He is shorter and heavier than Nephew John. Uncle John wears glasses, Nephew John does not. Uncle is clean-shaven, Nephew has a mustache. Uncle John is NOT pictured in this article. Nephew John IS....and he has a lot of loyal customers that will gladly go to his new and ONLY location as of this date: Woodsweather II at Vivion and Antioch. I know I'll be one of those customers. I've eaten there twice already and it is FABULOUS!!! I highly recommend the Caesar salad and the Ribeye with Chianti Garlic Butter! Both are divine!!
