I have dined alone in proper restaurants many times, and have no problem with it. During my work day, if I find myself solo for lunch and want a quiet resbit, I will treat myself to Jaspers. I don't recall ever ordering a "stake" though.
Was the closing/sale/New owner/New name for what was Rumors Steakhouse in Lee's Summitt ever reported? If not, call this a news tip.
FYI: The joint has closed, apparently changed ownership. Will re-open soon but I forgot what the sign on the door said the new name would be.
I hope their "focus on the rich jazz history of the original Drum Room" isn't a continuation of the "sleepy jazz" dinner music they employed to replace the Swing/Jazz and Jump Blues Swing they used to offer to the delight of dancers, hotel guests, and post wedding reception parties. While the joint across the street snapped up the supporters of the old Drum Room's lineup on Saturday nights; of late, the Drum Room has been looking pretty empty. That probably won't change, but Friday nights are still open to provide a more accurate throwback to Pendergast's Kansas City.
Re: “Buffets: Are you for them or against them?”
Not sure that it could ever be done well AND profitable; but what I would like to see is a quality high end seafood buffet. It would be expensive, for sure, but might be something discerning diners would pay for.
