Re: “Les Misérables

I also felt like it was a missed opportunity. It seemed like the director never took advantage of the fact that in movie form certain scenes could really soar beyond what is possible on a stage, but the movie didn't explore that.
The opening scene (way to long) and the closing scene (best in the movie and way to short on panorama) were the only times the movie moved away from overly tight close ups which were effective in some scenes, but got very boring during the two and a half hour plus movie.
The music and story line are straight from the show. I guess not a big surprise considering the stage productions huge following, so it is what it is. If you like the musical you'll sit thru the movie. I dream a dream on a small scale, recorded live on film is gutrenching. A great performance.
