Re: “While Stand Up KC pushes for higher wages, fast-food companies still have it their way

Any of these commenters interested in making economic, not moral, arguments against raising the minimum wage?

For about four decades, increases in the minimum wage have fallen behind inflation while worker productivity has doubled. That doesn't sound like systemic laziness to me.

And "you don't deserve it" spite isn't a terribly compelling justification to me for keeping the minimum wage low. Especially if reducing income inequality would lead to faster U.S. economic growth overall--which an August Standard & Poor's study suggests.

Re: “Spinning Tree romances Sondheim with A Little Night Music

Hi, "???," thanks for your comment. No argument here on Night Music's fine design team--no one should be "blamed" for equipment malfunction, but it's certainly something I think a sound designer would want to be aware of and address for future audiences if there's an issue. As I said, this is something I've noticed at other Off Center productions this season, which makes me wonder if this might be an ongoing issue (short, etc.) with a pesky piece of equipment.

I do actually have a background (and degree) in technical theatre, and I'm keenly aware that wigs and costumes can create minor flubs and rustling. That wasn't the culprit at Sunday's performance.

Best of luck with the rest of the run--you should feel proud to be involved with such a quality production.

Re: “Missouri shrouds its executions in secrecy. It's time to end the state's death penalty

Lori, that's a common argument, but it doesn't have teeth. A Kansas legislative audit found that the cost of a death penalty case was 70% higher than that of a comparable non-death penalty case. Repeated studies/audits in other states have reached similar conslusions:

Housing an inmate for life is a comparative bargain.

Re: “Before heading to NYC, Jonathan Jensen answers our Stage Questionnaire

Jessica's a great talent, and I'll miss seeing her on the KC stage. Best of luck to both!

Re: “Kansas' most vulnerable now have even less health care, thanks to Gov. Brownback

Jack:

1) The Pitch's parent company is not the Kansas City Star. You may be thinking of Ink.
2) If you feel that specific allegations in the article are inaccurate and unfair, you'd be doing us a service in pointing them out. But the act of critiquing conservative policies/politicians itself ≠ bias.
3) Balance fallacies. Balance fallacies everywhere.
