Here's what's reprehensible: 48 percent of the kids in Jackson County are on the reduced and free school lunch program, an accepted poverty marker; Jackson County is the poorest county in the metro area; none of the Mission Hill high rollers would open their pocketbooks, nor would big pharma, nor would local foundations. Why select the poorest county? Why an expensive election? This is a national and international issue. We are, as one writer said, socializing risk and privatizing reward. And Steve Vockrodt, the League of Women Voters also is against the regressive tax.
