Re: “Streetcar extension stalls over money, not Brookside NIMBYs

No, not misinformation... just the facts, according to the NextRail website. Sorry if the truth hurts.

I'm not the only one who will be paying $1K a year. There are hundreds of homeowners who are being asked to make a significant financial contribution to this project. I sortof feel like one of the actual stakeholders, instead of so many people who are eager to attack anyone who asks questions.

Look me up. I'm posting under my real name, unlike most of the haters ("numbercruncher") who might not be the ones actually paying the bill for increased taxes over a period of 25 years.

I've attended the meetings, visited with several City Council members, read everyone's blogs, followed the articles in The Star, KCBJ, Pitch, etc. and just find myself not so excited about this.

Maybe it's because it's not even faster than a regular bus or a car? (These trains have to stop at stoplights with regular traffic.... just like a bus.) Maybe it's because the lines won't take me to a ballgame or to the airport? Maybe it's the ugly overhead electrical lines going through heavily treed neighborhoods?

I'm just explaining why it's not super well received among lots of people -- not the vocal minority, as you claim -- whose homes are more than $500 K (a large part of Brookside) and who live within the 1/2 mile of the proposed track. We'll be writing the check each year. Will you? Hard to know if you're hiding behind an anonymous ID as you post snarky comments.

Doesn't mean I'm against progress, mass transit, streetcars, the Mayor, coolness or whatever you want to say - it's just that lots of people say it's not a good fit at this expense, this location, etc. Nothing personal. Don't get so fired up.

See you at the bus stop - we'll chat more.

Re: “Streetcar extension stalls over money, not Brookside NIMBYs

I always thought the whole Light Rail/mass transit idea was great for all. Loved using mass transit while living overseas.

But as a Brookside resident, I got significantly less excited when I saw that it would cost me $1,000 a year in extra taxes... for a period of 25 years. Sorry, all. Cool idea, but not quite as enthusiastic about it at that pricetag. I'll look forward to meeting all of the twitter attackers at the bus stop. I'm sure you all are regular riders.
