If a server is taking a lot of crap from someone, I just lighten the mood whenever they come over to my table.  Imitating or making fun of the offending party for them is usually appreciated….if they are a professional they’re not going to come over and complain about the people specifically, so I’ll say the things they cannot in a manner that helps to relieve some pressure.  Sometimes a skilled bit of improv can get you a free dessert.
