No, KC isn't ready to be a beer-bar town with little pockets of neighborhood breweries.

And probably won't be for some time, but that won't stop KC and their beer drinkers getting exposed to more and more types of beers from smart bar and restuarant owners, and hopefully a brewpub type start up or two.

The "Buzzard Beach to McCoy's" vs. "Boulevard to Westside Local/Grinders/Grunauer/Jack Stack/etc." comment seems ridiculously short-sided to me. Apples to oranges comparison, in a lot of ways.

Guess what ... from Boulevard to Westport to Waldo to Brookside to Crossroads is all about a friggin' 5-10 minute drive—Kansas City has a small geographic footprint, and so I can completely understand the brewery's concern with taking away business from anyone who has supported them over the years (from a Leawood bar to Ponak's).

I can see how a few greedy business owners wouldn't want another competitor, especially when it's a competitor backed by the Brewery itself, but what are the bars going to do about it though? Stop carrying Blvd? That would just exacerbate the problem.

I don't think it's to appease distributor partners as much as it is to not lose all local business in the neighborhood where it resides. Why would the bar down the street carry Boulevard beer when the brewery goes into business competition against them?
