A recipe I concocted as a child of a single, working mother, I was often responsible for cooking for my little brother & me. I give you...Hamburger & Beans:
1 lb. Hamburger (highest fat content available...adds flavor AND saves $)
1 can pork & beans (whatever size is in cabinet)
1 onion, chopped (preferrably with a very cheap & very dull knife...or use a hammer)
A few spices...whatever.
A generous dose of ketchup
Some hot sauce if available
A Secret Ingredient To Be Revealed Later

Brown hamburger & onion together in cleanest skillet
Dump in remaining ingredients, including the Secret Ingredient...a dollop of pancake syrup.
Simmer a while or eat immediately if you're that hungry.

It's still good, as an adult, but my wife forbids me to make it.
