I am not at all against articles that point out a city's shortcomings...if it is for the purpose of bringing those shortcomings to light so that they can be dealt with and the city can be a better place for it--though I fail to see exactly how TKC and others are making the city a better place with what they write. I do wonder though--as I think I stated in a previous post--if Mr. Trussell had written an article that portrayed the arts scene in a very negative light, and did not base any of his assertions on facts--the same problem that this author claims is an issue with Trussell's positive articles--would we even be having this discussion?

Whether you're criticizing theatre or city government or whatever, when you're positive, when you embrace something as "good", you run the risk of being perceived as being naive, or uninformed, or a shill; in fact, it's almost guaranteed that somebody with an axe to grind is going to say that the thing you've spoken positively of is, in fact, crap and that you, in fact, are at best not hip enough or smart enough to know it, or worse, are just a sellout.

When you're negative all that can be said is that you're standards are too high, which, really just affirms that you're the most discriminating of critics.

Leave Mr.Trussel alone. Try to be a critic in a town with a relatively small theatre community, where the same 200 people play in every show on every stage and see how you can avoid being stabbed in the dark alley by people like "KC Actress" who can't stand anything but "sunshine" criticism.

      Oh, good job David!

Well, in case you haven't noticed, and I guess you haven't, The Star has a long history of being a civic booster, and it continues to draw on that duty in trying to make the area a better place to live. That would include the arts.
