A Strong Foundation

Kansas Citians with their ears to the ground are well aware of Foundation Architectural Reclamation in the West Bottoms (1221 Union, 816-283-8990). By day, people wander the modest, exposed-brick building and admire architectural artifacts. At night, the gallery's Foundation Room showcases the work of local artists and designers before and during local bands' sets. "Creating events like the Urban Bazaar, which has staged such acts as Life & Times, Alacartoona, Monta at Odds and Voler aerial acrobatics, was intended to help draw people into the Bottoms and into our store," Patrick Ottesen, Foundation owner, says. Tonight, the Foundation hosts a fifth anniversary party, with performances by Victor & Penny, the Latenight Callers, Depth of Field, DJ Jochen and VJDN8. Also: refreshments by Delish Catering and a raffle that offers a chance to win five hours of party time on any Friday in 2011. The Foundation's new, first-floor event gallery is open for viewing tonight as well. The cover-free, all-ages fete begins at 6 p.m.
