A Wimoweh, A Wimoweh

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion will probably be awake tonight. Enjoy animal facts by the diffuse light of the setting sun, when the Kansas City Zoo (6800 Zoo Drive, 816-513-5800) hosts Sunset Safari — Africa, from 4 to 8 p.m. Hush my darling, be still my darling, the zookeeper is trying to say that the evening includes animal-keeper chats at half-hour intervals, beginning at 5 p.m., on the topics of everyone's favorite African animals — hippos, chimps, rhinos, lions, gorillas and cheetahs. And because it's a sunset tour, it's both educational and sexy. Bring a date, your kids or both. The zoo's Africa section is home to the recently opened Sky Safari, an eight-minute ride over the top of the exhibit that gives guests a bird's-eye view of the animals (a round-trip ride is $4; one way costs $2). Zoo admission is free for Friends of the Zoo members and $6 for everyone else. For more information, see kansascityzoo.org.
