A Year of Flexing

Last year, President Barack Obama declared June to be LGBT Pride Month in the United States. Popular variants of the acronym have added QIA to the end — for queer, intersex and ally — but all can recognize their pride when the popular weekly DJ event Flex Friday celebrates its first anniversary at Crosstown Station (1522 McGee, 816-471-1522) with Flex Your Pride. "The gay scene in KC wanted something different, and almost 250 people have come out every week since we started the idea to support something different. It has been a blessing for Crosstown," says club owner Chip Mitchell. Both tonight and Saturday night, the aerialists and dancers of Quixotic team up with Nomathmatics for an hourlong show downstairs. Chicago VJ Riley York works the upstairs crowd tonight, and Channel One Releasing porn actor Brent Everett dances and signs autographs Saturday. Ticket packages run from $7 to $20; see flexkc.com. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the show starts at 10.
Fri., June 4, 10 p.m.; Sat., June 5, 10 p.m., 2010
