Accounts Sayable

The distractions that plague day-to-day conversation can sometimes mangle a tale's true meaning. But for those willing to clear their thoughts and lend someone their ears, telling and listening to a story is still within the realm of possibility. Embrace the art of live storytelling during the Lawrence Arts Center's (940 New Hampshire in Lawrence) first Story Slam. The 18-and-older event showcases 10 participants from the area, each telling five-minute tales that center on a theme — which is, appropriately, "Firsts." The requirements emphasize the importance of practiced oration — stories must be true, first-person accounts delivered without notes or other prompts. It starts at 7: 30 p.m.; donations are accepted at the door. For more information, see lawrenceartscenter.org or call 785-843-2787.
