Aloha

“Body Buzz” by Aloha, from Light Works (Polyvinyl):

In the beginning, Aloha earned its indie-rock stripes with mathy, off-kilter tunes that prominently featured vibraphone. The band's unorthodox instrumentation ignited word-of-mouth buzz in towns such as Lawrence, where the group frequently played DIY house shows. Since then — and especially on the band's latest EP, Light Works — Aloha has vastly sharpened its songcraft and diversified its repertoire to include sprawling ballads and some of the prettiest guitar chimes this side of Death Cab for Cutie. It's almost as if they woke up one day and said, "Fuck it — we're going to five blades."
